(( closed; takes place during WA, and yes, I'm that slow because I'm stuck. ))
It was hard to say whether that was early dinner or late lunch, Gambit's manner of arranging things during the day didn't give a chance for a clear distinction. He took Shade out to a random bar because he needed a change of scenery. He had noticed the absence of the mansion's people from the Hellfire Club, and he knew it was the calm before the storm: something was about to go off, even if he had no idea when.
He got himself a beer and lit a cigarette. "Anot'er week like dis, an' I'll go 'ang myself, seriously," he commented, leaning against the back of the seat.

Shade had gotten herself her usual glass of Coke and sat down on the seat next to him, stretching her legs. There were quite some people around and she caught herself at the thought that she had become a little more wary of her sorroundings since the sentinel attack. She felt secure in Gambit´s presence and yes, it had been a few weeks since then; still, it had made her a little more anxious. Not to the extent where it would show to others watching her, but with little things such as giving strangers a second look and being more consciously aware of her sorroundings now and then instead of just walking along.
She leant back and gave Gambit a sideward look, wondering what lay behind these words. The last few weeks, due to the fact of what had been going on in Manhattan, had been spent in his apartment mostly, with some times where he was gone for a time, but never to long and her only leaving the place in his company. She had never complained as she knew that knowing her safe made him feel better, still she wondered whether the comment he had just made resulted from just that. He had stayed away for several days before, but not since the sentinel incident and at his words, although she was pretty sure he did not mean them as a reproach, Shade felt a slight sting of guilt nag her. She pushed it back, biting back something along the lines of her feeling sorry for things being the way they were with her staying at his place and under protection and him never wandering too far because of that.
"Don´t." she said, watching him with the hint of a smile. "We´d better do something that keeps Gambit from the hanging." Her voice was making clear she was neither pitying him nor making fun of his statement, just stating something and at the same time, pushing the still present slight nag of guilt away from her thinking, and away from his empathy.

"Such as?" Gambit asked, turning his head to glance at her with a crooked smile. He really didn't have too many hopes about the plans for the nearest future.

Shade gave a little shrug, raising a hand to absently let her fingers trail through the tips of his hair. "I don´t know." she said. She enjoyed staying at his place, no question, still the constant feeling of a calm before the storm and something looming over them was getting her restless somehow. How much more did Gambit have to feel this way, he who had always loved to roam around, much more than her? "We should go somewhere." she said, following more just her trail of thoughts than any concrete planning. "Away from here for a while. Take some things and just see where the road takes us." Away, she knew, meant away from that city, away from the constant feeling of being under some threat even though she couldn´t grasp it. "maybe we´ll have more luck with that this time..." she added, knowing that he would get the connection to the last time they had just headed down the road... and ended up in hospital with his neck broken.

Gambit remembered all too well the last time they had planned to go 'where the road would take them'. However, he was focused on another aspect of his thoughts right now so he ignored that. "Eh oui, an' do what?" he asked, flipping the ash off his cigarette into an ashtray. "Can't stand doin' nothin' like dis any longer..."

So she had been right, Shade mused. Gambit was restless. She didn´t take it as a personal offence as she knew some girls she had known at college would have, because she knew it didn´t have to do with her. It was the way Gambit thought and lived, he had mentioned finding idleness odd for quite some time already. "Yeah" she said, partly agreeing, partly signalling him that she could understand that reasoning. "we´d see. What´s the first thing that comes to your mind? What would you want to do? Where would you want to go?"

"Dieu, I dunno," Gambit said, making a clueless gesture by throwing both arms up. "Go find some trouble would be perfect..." he took a smoke.

Shade couldn´t help a little smirk at that. "Trouble huh?" she asked. Some part of her responded to the idea of ´finding trouble´ and she figured it was the same shade of her personality that had picked up on ideas such as stealing the corvette. Seemed as if Gambit had succeeded in at least partly corrupting her. "What sort of trouble?" she asked in a way others might ask about plans for a vacation.

The completely calm way in which Shade reacted to his suggestion was so sweet that he couldn't help but smile. "Trouble as spy, steal, provoke, kick somebody's ass." Trouble was hard to define. It was a kind of atmosphere, not a specific action.

Pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid pillage and plunder... Shade continued the list for herself, smirking at the thought. "Part of that sounds interesting." she said, propping her head on her palm, her arm draped over the back of her seat. What are you saying there, Shadey, an inner voice demanded. She did not pay it too much attention. "also because it sounds different from" hiding most of the time... "sitting and waiting for the world to get back to normal or something."

"It does, doesn't it?" Gambit agreed. He finished the cigarette and put it out in the ashtray, glancing around the bar. There was a large TV screen on one of the walls, showing some sports at the moment.

Shade followed his gaze lazily, taking a sip from her coke before she leant back again, propping her head against her arms which she had crossed behind her neck. "Yeah." she said with a little smile, not really taking in the images that flickered across the screen. Always so easy in movies and comic books, she thought and figured that she wouldn´t mind a little sort of adventure like what he had mentioned right now. No, not at all. "So it´s either me being restless and agreeing with you because of that or you having finally succeeded with some of your wicked corrupting."

"Or my irresistible animal magnetism," Gambit agreed. "Next t'ing ya know, ya're sittin' in a police department in handcuffs thinkin', 'ey, dat was fun."

Shade chuckled lightly. He was making a point she mused, noticing with a sideward thought that her parents for one would not be happy with what she had been up to these last few months... if they knew - which they didn´t. And never would. "Definitely." she said. "I´d let them mess around with their handcuffs and hope for some handsome guy to come along and pick the locks when I´m sitting in my cell. Who knows, maybe I´d be lucky with that."

"Yeah," Gambit agreed again, "dat could happen." In an instant, before he even acted consciously, his eyes averted to the corner of the room; the voices of the people there became more hushed than could've been expected from a bar. They all had their attention drawn to the TV screen now. He glanced there as well and instead of the previous sports program saw breaking news.
