Shade suppressed to flinch when the needle touched her skin, biting her bottom lip not to make a sound. She was sure the tattoo guy, as he had claimed, had heard it all before, but part of a whimper would have simply been due to the nervousness that had built up inside her over the last hour, almost expecting it to hurt. And it did. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying not to concentrate on it which didn´t really work since she had chosen a rather sensitive part of her skin and clutched the arms of the chair slightly, holding still and clenching her teeth.

Gambit saw her reaction, he wasn't surprised but still he found he didn't like to see pain in her features. Well, there was nothing else to do - she'd have to go through it and he'd have to sit there watching her. He only gave her an encouraging glance.

It didn´t get better or easier but after a moment, her skin knew what to expect and even though that didn´t make things hurt less, she found she could party unfocus her attention from the pain. Opening her eyes again, she caught Gambit´s glance and returned it with a little smile. "Now I feel brave..." she said, partly also to distract herself from the unpleasant buzz of the needle.

Gambit gave her an encouraging grin. "Bunjee jumpin', cheri."

Shade refused the urge to chuckle at that since she guessed unexpected moves, even little once, wouldn´t be good. She glanced down at her hip to see that the artist was doing the outlines, inwardly groaning at it because things went rather slow, or at least that was her perception of things naturally. She looked at the little blood the needle drew and looked away again. "Yep." she said, turning her head towards Gambit slightly. "Just what I thought about earlier. Will be next on my to do list when I have a day where I feel courageous."

Gambit nodded. "Those days happen often?" he asked.

"More often than they used to." Shade replied with a little grin, then suppressed a flinch which showed in her features briefly. She had changed quite a bit in the last few months, become a great deal more self confident, was doing things she would not have done when she had still lived back at home. There was quite a list of such things, she thought with an inward smirk. "So you might see me jump."

"Hopefully," Gambit grinned. He saw the development of her dare side as his own achievement, so it made him feel good.

Her grin, and she couldn´t help it, looked a little forced, not because she was scared of the thought of bunjee jumping, but because it was difficult to shut out the pain. A childish part of her wanted to give the tattoo artist a glare, because it was him causing that annoying pain after all, but then again, that would have been pretty stupid, so all she could do was to distract herself. "I...phoned school." she said through slightly clenched teeth, remembering that she hadn´t told him yet. "Guess what, I´m almost something like an aunt now." Mystique was no relative of course, but she was a good friend so well, that maybe made her an almost-aunt.

Gambit raised his brows at that, trying to guess what she meant. "Meanin'?" he asked.

"´Stique had her baby." Shade said, using the name she always used instead of ´Raven´. Even though Wideawake was out there, she would not hide what she was and if the artist was anti mutant, he would have kicked them out already, as Gambit´s eyes were a rather sure sign. Another rather painful moment made her clench her hand a little harder around the chair´s arm. "On Halloween."

Gambit chuckled. On Halloween. "Dat's good news," he said. "Boy, girl?"

"A girl." Shade replied. "Didn´t get to know much more though." Especially since the Professor, as she guessed, had not wanted to discuss the matter of fatherhood over the phone too much. He had not reacted on the congratulations for himself, she remembered. ((OOC: Prof, knowing Shadey, she will ask for the kid´s sex before that phone call ends. If Xavier choses not to tell her (he ) I will edit this post later ))

"Bon," Gambit nodded. He noticed that the outline was ready now; the artist continued with the filling of the pattern. Even now, not finished, it looked very nice.

Shade followed his glance, looking down at her hip. Talking had distracted her a little and she noticed with content and slight relief that the tattoo had made some progress. Her hands were sweaty by now and she was starting to wonder if she was going to be able to wear her jeans over the hip normally or if she was going to leave her clothes as they were and walk with her stomach invisible or something. She also wondered how long that pain would stay.
"How long will it take till it stops hurting?" she asked the artist. "I mean, how long till I can take the bandage down?"
