"Not dat he'd need any," Gambit added. Judging by what he could feel on his back, the four card symbol were already outlined, and the next was the veve pattern around those. That one was Tante Mattie's suggestion - he accepted it. The artist pressed a napkin to Gambit's skin every now and then to wipe the appearing blood off.

Shade chuckled slightly, partly to keep her thoughts off that needle. "Cheek." she said, then fell silent for a moment, watching the artist work with some morbid fascination. Maybe that would be best to keep her slight nervousness down. Well, the sight of blood did not really help, so she found some courage in the thought that she had been through worse physical pain than that during the last couple of months.

After an hour of the needle's buzzing and some small comments, Gambit's tattoo was done. He checked it in the mirror and nodded in contentment - it was exactly what he wanted, four playing card symbols in a vertical line between his shoulder blades with a comparatively simple veve pattern as the background. He complimented the artist on the result and turned to Shade.
"Your turn, chere."
The artist, not wasting his time while Shade was making up her mind, covered Gambit's tattoo with petroleum jelly and put temporary bandaging over it.

During the last hour Shade´s palms had gotten slightly sweaty. She had not had any idea about how long it took to get a tattoo, but an hour was... well... long. The tattoo on Gambit´s back still looked rather fresh and redenned but the artist, as far as she could judge, had done really good work. As if that would have helped her nervousness, but she would rather bite her tongue than back out now.
She gave Gambit a smile and handed the catalog to the artist, explaining what she wanted the tattoo to look like and where to place each tribal. "Is that doable?" she asked, mostly asking because she wanted to say something instead of just sitting there, staring at the needle.

The artist studied the patterns, thinking. "Show me your hip," he said.
Gambit sat down, looking at them.

Shade looked at the other man for a moment, unblinking, then reached to open her jeans to pull it down slightly and push up her pullover so he could see her hip. Bad moment to get annoyed about having to show some skin, she thought with a mix of amusement and annoyance at herself and chose to just ignore the fact.

Gambit couldn't help but tease her with whistling at her small stripping. The artist completely ignored him, concentrating only on planning his work. "Okay," he said, "looks possible." He pointed with his hand, establishing the place for the future tattoo. "Somewhere about here?"

Shade sent Gambit a playful glare at the whistling, then looked down to where the artist was pointing at and nodded. "There, yes." she said. "I´d like those two tribals diagonally, about this size alltogether." And she marked something that looked about 8 centimetres between her fingers, holding it against her skin to check how big it would look.

"Uh-huh," the artist said. He got the pictures, xeroxed them to reduce the size to the one requested, then got the tracing paper. "Take your seat, then."
"I'll hold yer hand an' be dere for ya, chere," Gambit said in a mock-emotional tone.

Shade chuckled at that. "You´ll regret teasing me once you´ll notice my hip´ll be sore for days." she said with a somewhat shaky grin when she sat down, warily following every movement of the artist with her eyes.

"Right," Gambit snorted, "like it be my teasin' dat make it sore."
The artist cleaned Shade's skin and, pressing the drawing to her skin, started to trace it through the tracing paper.

"Just saying." Shade remarked, again, talking more for the sake of speaking and thus distracting herself. She glanced down at her hip, but there was no needle yet so she was still relatively relaxed.

"Yah, go ahead, blame everythin' on me," Gambit said, leaning back but holding himself with his hands on the edge of the chair so as not to let his back touch the wall.

Shade glanced at him for a moment, smirking slightly, before her attention returned to her hip. The outlines were starting to show with the quick sketch and she noticed contently that it looked nice. That would definitely be pretty... once it was done that was.

Gambit watched as the artist put the paper away and began to ink the outlines first. The Cajun didn't wonder whether Shade would have enough patience to sit through it all until the end - he'd seen enough of her dare side over the past months not to doubt that, but he simply wondered how she would react.
