As soon as Gambit returned from New Orleans where he went for the All Saints Day, he went to free Shade from his apartment. He knew that she would be glad to dine out after having been locked up there for two days, so they took his bike and left the place.
"Dere's somethin' I wanna do right now," Gambit said with a mischievous expression on his face as they were finishing their lunch. "I'm gonna get a tattoo. Wanna join?"

The time at Gambit´s apartment had not been as boring as she might have feared. Having Shona for a company and having brought some books, time had gone by okay, although she had of course missed him and been more than glad to have him back.
Shade looked up from her plate of pasta, still holding a fork full of spaghetting, giving him a half amused a half surprised look. She had never thought about this put somehow she would not have expected Gambit to get a tattoo. Not that she would mind, it was just something that did not completely fit with the image of the thief who was always careful to leave no traces and stay unsuspicious. Surely that tattoo would be at a place people usually didn´t see. She grinned. "Join as in come with me and watch me or get one too?" she asked.

"Well, whichever way ya choose t' join," Gambit shrugged.

Shade thought for a moment, before she shrugged as well. Months back, she had had a conversation with Night concerning tattoos. Back then she had said she´d not want to get one, but then again Shade had done quite a few things the last few months she had before that claimed she would never do. The idea was interesting.
"Maybe." she pondered, giving her noodles a thoughtful look before she ate them. Her plate was empty now. "I´d have to think about the what and where though, first. You got an idea already?

Gambit nodded. The idea had been suggested to him by none other than Tante Mattie; in fact, she had been trying to talk him into getting a tattoo for many years now, but he had always dismissed it since a tattoo was something that made him easily traceable, and, being a thief, he didn't want that to happen.
But during this Halloween, he finally made up his mind, deciding that he wasn't a young boy any longer who would be afraid to be found that easily - he couldn't be caught that easily, compared to his teenage years, so he could finally acquiesce to Tante Mattie's suggestion. To her, tattoos had spiritual meaning. They fulfilled a task of amulets, brought protection, and he would gladly go by that.

Shade propped her chin on her hand, looking at him with a smile. "You know, I´m curious now." she said. "come on, do share."

"You'll see," Gambit grinned. "But I can give ya a hint - it's got somethin' t' do wit' one of my hobbies." He paid for the dinner and got up to go.

Shade snickered, getting up as well. "I´d bet on locks or cards then." she thought aloud, thinking that she had wondered about his hobbies earlier which had resulted in the present she had gotten for him - and which had arrived while he had been away to be safely hidden at the bottom of her duffle bag under a pile of clothes and books.

"Bingo," Gambit said, not specifying further to leave her guessing for a while.
They arrived to a tattoo parlor he'd chosen based on recommendations from some people in the Guild, and Remy opened the door for Shade, letting her go in first.

The only time Shade had been to a tattoo parlor before had been about four years back. She had been on a shopping trip to Asheville with a hand full of friends when one of them had gotten the idea of getting a tattoo. They had walked in, had a look around, the guy had gotten chicken and they had left again with him using the excuse that he had to think about what to get thoroughly first.
She stepped through the door, having a look around. Maybe a tattoo wasn´t a bad idea, she thought. She would just see if she found something she liked enough. She knew she could be rather picky when it came to things like this and quite frankly she was not too fond of needles. But still, there was that little part of her that had gotten more pronounced ever since the accident, a slightly more daring side of herself that thought the idea to be actually appealing.

A guy that worked at the parlor walked over to them. "So - what can I help you with?" he asked.
"With a tattoo," Gambit smirked and, as the guy invited him inside, Gambit nodded for Shade to follow him. "Come on, chere, you can take a look at some pictures."

Shade followed them, letting her gaze stray around the place as she did so. The walls were hung with samples and sketches of tattoos of various kind, small and big, ranging from simple symbols up to complicated pieces of art. The tattoo guy had started to talk to Gambit who, as he had noticed, had decided that he wanted to get a tattoo already whereas Shade was still pondering about it.
The idea was intriguing in a way and she liked it more and more. Having no idea yet what she would like, she continued looking at the art displayed. It should have to be something personal, nothing that was just some pretty decoration without meaning. And then there was the question of where. That probably depended on what tattoo she would chose, but she immidiately dismissed arms and lower back. Maybe an ankle. Or her lower hip. Or a shoulder blade.

The tattoo artist caught up with the idea quickly; he knew about veve patterns and was full of suggestions for the playing card symbols. Gambit was impressed. While they were working on this, he threw glances at Shade who obviously got engrossed in everything around her. He wondered if she was thinking of what to do for herself.
They worked out the final design, and Gambit took his jacket and shirt off - his tattoo would be on the back.

Shade caught his glance across the room and tossed him a smile. She was in a generously good mood. Even with all the things to occupy her mind these days; the sentinels, Shona´s problems, she just felt good today. Maybe it was because she mostly did in his company, maybe because it was good to be out in the city as opposed to inside. She couldn´t tell.
She had found a chart with numerous tribals and there was also a little catalog with more of them. She liked the design and, taking the catalog for further inspection to narrow down on ideas, walked over to where Gambit was. Peeking at the piece of paper where the artist had jotted down the final sketch, she smirked. "Knew it." she remarked before sitting down on a nearby chair, the catalog still in her hands.

"Not all of it," Gambit smirked, then winked at her. The artist started to trace the drawing onto Gambit's back, and the Cajun glanced at the place in the catalog Shade had opened.
