"Always two options," Gambit shrugged, "offense or defense. An' Gambit wouldn' suggest de first one." He had to be nonchalant about it, there was no use in running all hysterical around.

For many reasons Shade was glad Gambit did not get hectic about the whole matter. She knew him well enough to know that he was concerned, but he chose not to show it too much, because he would not see much sense in it. It did her better anyways that at least one of them was calm and soothing, had he been edgy and scared, it would have only upset her most. She had never been friends with the clichée image of a weak female needing a strong male shoulder to lean on but right now this was just what she needed in a way.
"I guess so." she said, not moving an inch away from Gambit as if she was pulling strenght from his closeness. "Same old run and hide."There was a faint trace of bitterness in her words. Obviously not directed in what he had said but rooted in the knowledge that she had nothing to oppose the sentinel. Even though it had behaved odd in the end.

Gambit held his glance on her for a long moment. "So?" he asked. "Ya got a problem 'bout dat?"

Shade made a movement with her head that could have been either a nod or a head shake. "I just would´ve preferred to be able to defend myself instead of running like a rabbit." Especially if power use drained her like it had. Something was at odds. Maybe she should see the Professor about it?

Gambit shrugged. "We gotta make do wit' what we have. Although ya can, of course, run against a Sentinel an' kick it to death wit' your shoes, I don't see why ya should deny yaself such fun."

Although it was a weird thing to do in her situation, Shade couldn´t help a chuckle. Somehow Gambit managed to cheer her a little, maybe just because he tried to see things in a more casual way. There was nothing he could change about it so why not see things as they were? "Right." she said, eyeing the chocolate cake on the table, pondering whether she was hungry. "I´d have to do some really quick jumps to avoid nets and bolts and all that crap. And kick really hard."

"Yeah," Gambit agreed. "Sound like fun, don' it? In a monkey jumpin' kinda way."

Shade smiled a little. "Yeah." she said. The trembling had abated by now, but she was not relaxed. Not entirely. The exhaution she had felt earlier was retreating a little, but not totally. She wished she could joke about things and maybe she could later, but now it still felt strange. "My legs are feeling like jelly." she said, moving a little but staying close, grabbing for the second glass of Coke.

As usual when she was feeling scared or otherwise weird she knew this time as well that Gambit could relate. It felt good. Shade took a gulp from her Coke but didn´t touch the cake just yet. Later maybe. Then she settled against Gambit again. It had to look weird for onlookers to see them that clingy, but closeness was just what she needed right now. "I´m so glad you came here." she said honestly closing her eyes for a moment while trying to do what he told her; relax. Yes, she had been scared for him as well because of the sentinel but he could look after himself far better than she could and having Gambit by her side chased away some of her fears.

"I had to," Gambit said, kissing the top of her head. "I would never leave ya."

Shade kept her eyes closed, affection rising inside her to blend out quite some of her anxiety and fear. She felt like a child, cradled in the arms of a loved one who had chased away a nightmare. Utterly safe and protected. Loved. She slung her arms around Gambit´s waist. "I love you so much." she said silently, suddenly having to pull up some effort to not become emotional and start to cry. It was many different emotions coming together, totally contradicting feelings nearly overtaxing her mind.

Gambit smiled, pulling her closer towards him in a tighter embrace. "Love ya, chere," he said, not just to reply to her but meaning it. To him, love meant putting the life of the other person before his own. If the Sentinels were around, he would protect her even at the cost of his life.

Shade snuggled closer to him, cradling her head against Gambit´s chest. These words felt more soothing than anything could and for a moment she had the feeling that nothing could possibly harm them. Sentinels and Wideawake or not didn´t matter, no matter how scary all this was and how disturbing. Maybe that was a naive thought, but she held on to it.
"In the end the madmen always fall." she said after a long moment, raising her typical optimising from somewhere."These ones will, too." Gambit would know what she was referring too and he possibly knew as well that it was a thing she would naturally say, because she had never been one to see things in a too desperate light.

"Yeah," Gambit agreed. "Dey usually take many along , too." He stubbornly refused to let her get overly optimistic without seeing the realistic points in everything.
