Dia hadn't even heard about the gathering until she was at the mall that day, wasting time, and overheard an argument between two poster-carrying parties from either side. She had followed a block behind the ones arguing for the mutant side to the protest, weaving her way into the crowd a while ago, before it was so packed. Now, she was practically smashed in the middle of the shouting mass of people, constantly getting bumped around and once almost taking an elbow to the face. It was impossible to move very far, and she knew her chances of leaving anytime soon were slim, so she watched the street and the crowd on the other side, occasionally turning to scan the people around her to see if she could spot anyone she knew.

Tom got out of the car, he too had sunglasses on. He looked towards the group of mutants seeming to put the mutant haters in their right place. He wondered if they were with Magneto. He came to stand near Dasha.

"Beasts?" She cried, furious. Other mutants had joined them, and Pietro slipped from her grasp to confront him. But she slipped around them, to stand in front of the disgusting bigot. How dare that wretch call them beasts and heathens. If he wanted to follow his own deluded religions, that was fine. But he had no right saying what he did. She strode forward, her hand swinging back and coming to slap him solidly across the cheek.

"Let's try to keep a low profile," said Jack quietly once everyone had gathered. "If it looks like trouble, try to calm it. We're here to help keep things calm and try to scout for information, not cause trouble." Once he was sure everyone understood, he strode from the SUV with swift footsteps, making his way towards the mass of people. He was already scanning the area, and it seemed there was a tense argument kicking off. He signalled mutely with his hand for the rest of the team, and began to approach, watching, but not intervening.

John had been simply walking by, on his way searching for a job. At the sight of the protest, a small smirk worked its way onto his face. Snapping at a bunch of narrow minded humans, and threatening them at the same time, really was what he needed right then. He began pushing his way through the growing crowd, his lighter already in hand.

::The protester had not been able to strike fear into the hearts of these mutants, not surprising since their hearts were filled with darkness. He endured the threats of that woman, but when he found himself suddenly slapped, he grabbed the woman in the scarlet coat's wrist, yanking it down and away from him.:: "Don't touch me, Mutie."

Danielle grabbed the religious man's other arm twisting it behind his back. "Let go of her now, or I break your arm" she whispered into his ear. Right now she was kind of happy she had super strength.

::Touching his sister was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Pietro had warned the religious zealot, and rather than heed that warning, he had chosen to lay a hand on Wanda. Pietro stopped caring about keeping a low profile, he stopped caring about a possible police encounter. He pulled back his fist, and punched the man, hard and swiftly, in his nose, causing him to stagger back.:: "Take. Your. Hand. Off. Her."

Link looked over as a woman slapped one of the mutant-haters. Didn't seem like it was going as peacefully as some had expected. She quickly moved towards Jack as he gave his silent signal.

The moment Pietro punched the man, Dasha knew there would be trouble. She hadn't ever seen protests like this before, so the whole thing was incredibly daunting to her.

Two police officers quickly got to the place where the conflict was brewing. Holding their hands on their guns to be ready to aim their weapons, they stepped right into the middle, forcing Wanda and Pietro away from the man. "Step aside," one of them said, "or we will have to arrest you both." Their eyes betrayed some hint of fear - they were aware that they were probably dealing with mutants, and who knew what powers those mutants had, but they were doing their job.
(( and please, DO keep in mind there's police there, thank you for your attention ))

::The protester staggered from the punch, and found his arm pulled painfully behind him. Just as he was about to respond, two police officers came, threatening the mutants with arrest. He dropped the mutant's wrist and pulled free of the other one, a hand holding his nose to keep it from bleeding. His eyes fell on the officers.:: "Arrest them for being a blight on society."

Tom quickly moved towards the rest of UNIT as some officers came to break up the fight. It was obvious they weren't fond of muants either and if need be he was ready to step in.

John's eyes were glancing over the crowd, and it didn't take him long to spot a growing fight between some seemingly overly religious protesters, and a few mutants was happening. When the police popped up, John knew that this protest was going to get out of hand. Things always got out of hand when the police showed up. He began pushing his way over towards there, snapping insults to a few protesters along the way.

"God, how could anyone think a rally like this could go peacefully?" Jack muttered as he watched the police intervene and calm the fight.
