"Who knows," Gambit shrugged. "Alors, she had somethin' for breakfast, I s'pose she won't die of hunger in de nearest future." Still, even though he'd voiced a reason not to be worried, Connie's refusal to eat upset him to some extent.

Shade made a face, wrinkling her nose. Breakfast had been hours ago and didn´t one say kids that age were always hungry? She wasn´t sure about that but believed to have heard that kind of thing somewhere, somewhen.
"You think I should give it a try?" she asked, not sure how she was going to try and persuade Connie, but feeling for the little girl.

Gambit sized her up with his glance and shrugged. "Sho, go ahead." He opened the bottle and poured some wine in his glass.

The reason she had asked was not because Shade thought she could do a better job at this, but just because she thought that since she was here, she might as well try.
She had been standing near the window and walked out of the kitchen, finding the door to Connie´s room slightly ajar. For a moment, she hesitated, wondering whether this was even a good idea and whether it wasn´t better to take on Gambit´s she´ll-eat-when-she´s-hungry approach. That, and for a moment this all felt just rather awkward again. But then she told herself those were silly thoughts and carefully, slowly, opened the door. "Connie?" she asked, her voice low.
There was some barely visible ruffle under the pillows that told her the girl was more likely to fake sleeping than actually being asleep. Shade took a step closer to the the bed, thinking how those pillows and blankets looked so much too big for this little girl.
She sat down on the edge of the bed, not too close, not meaning to close in. "Hey deary," she said carefully. "Do you think we can have a deal, you and I? You know, like a girl thing?" She was making things up as she went.
