Bel´s giggling was contageous and Shade couldn´t help to do the same. Well, probably the alcohol also had a good say in it. "Oh, I´m sure he hated that guts." she laughed, wiping across her eyes. "Mega pout and all."

"Yeah, he was real pissed at me," Bella nodded, still giving some chuckles. "But he knew he could kick my ass as well, so we settled it after a while."

Shade chuckled and leant back again, holding the picture in her hand, studying it, the other arm draped across the back of her seat. It sounded like Gambit a lot and it also sounded plausible to her why Gambit would get along with someone like Bel. Shade knew that he was not the type of guy for a woman who expected a man to cut her a slack because she was a woman. Who expected him to tread around her on tip toes. What he wanted, Shade thought, was someone who would accept his dares, brave his bluntness, fence with him verbally, in short: someone he could see eye to eye. Bel sounded like that type of woman. She brushed the thought away. There is no reason for jealousy, Shadey, she reminded herself. If anything at all, this is what this conversation has proven so far.
"I like that about him." she said, following that train of thought, her tongue loosened by the alcohol. She raised her glass, looking at the little paper umbrella that stuck from a piece of pinapple. "He doesn´t give you that crap about treating you like you´re made of something fragile, just because you´re a woman."

"Oh yes," Bel agreed, nodding, then leaned onto the table, supporting her head with one arm. She probably looked really drunk now but she forgot she was supposed to uphold a dignified image. "But he still knows 'ow to make ya feel like a queen." She sighed. "Oh, he was de best out of everyone I could choose. None of the guys were a match to him. He had dat Prophecy flair goin' on about him, an' it made him special, of course, but den he grew up an' then wham - he really stood out all of a sudden. Their own honed, home-grown Guild prince." Bitterly she made a remark on 'them' - the Guild of Thieves.

Shade new nearly nothing about Gambit when it came to New Orleans. She knew about the guilds, yes, about the prophecy, both of them. The one that had led to him being stolen from the hospital, and the other that had arranged his marriage. Or maybe that was one prophecy, she didn´t know. Other than that, what else did she know of Gambit the "guild prince"? Hardly anything and she noticed her mind try to come up with pictures. Adventurous pictures. Gambit powerful in a place that looked like the southern states from a movie. Voodoo, warring guilds, intrigue. It made for a proud and fascinating picture. One that was different from the thief she knew. It was an image from a fairy tale, possibly looking more pretty in her mind than in reality, but it made her smile.
"He does stick out of a crowd." she said. "I remember quite well."

"Do ya?" Bel asked, raising tired and forlorn glance at Shade. "How didja meet?"

"Here." Shade said, playing with the paper umbrella. "I first met him when I came here with a few friends. We talked a bit, but not much. I came back alone another time, then we talked about this and that. The next time he asked me out and we went to this pizza place and he then took me to the top of the Empire State Building." She felt a small smile appear on her face at the memory. He had appeared in her life when she had needed a cheer up. Maybe that was one reason why she had given in to him so easily. But she didn´t regret it.

Bella considered it. This sounded totally like a commonplace story, nothing out of the ordinary. Her first meeting with Gambit was certainly more interesting. "So what made 'im stand out?" she asked, frowning slightly in drunken confusion.

Shade thought about it, coming to the conclusion that it was difficult to grasp. "He was there when I needed someone. And I just.." she made a move with her hand "jumped into it head over heels. He had this..energetic feel about him. And at the same time he listened like he knew about problems. It was a kind of devil may care attitude, but at the same time he did care." There was more she could have said about it, but even with two and a half cocktails in her system, this was too personal. Too intimate. It had been a difficult time. Just out of the brotherhood, trying to come to terms with thoughts of revenge against Jimmy´s killers that she didn´t know how to handle, quite some bad things happening at the mansion. He had come along at that moment. She had told him once, a long time ago that she thought he had saved her then. In a way he had.

"Oh," Bella nodded, then straightened up in a not very confident manner. "So, in de right place in de right time? He's always had a good sense of timing. I guess it comes wit' his profession."

"Yup." Shade said, summing up her half emotional drunken musings. "I guess it does." She shifted on her seat a bit, more being slumped in it than actually sitting upright. "Has he ever stolen anything cool for you?" she asked curiously.

"Pff, plenty," Bella shrugged, as if it was taken for granted. "But it was a bit hard, in a way, I couldn' show off wit' his gifts, we had to keep it secret from everyone 'cause de Guilds were at a war, and I couldn't say 'oh, I stole it' 'cause I ain't a thief-" she sighed. "But den if I wanted anythin', all I had to do was point."

Shade chuckled at that. Not merely at what she said, but how she said it. It sounded a bit like showing off. Like saying ´of course my man stole me everything I wanted´. Shade couldn´t help but smirk. Oh well, she thought, that would be me now. I´m sure he would be only too glad to get me what I want. Thing is, there are people that see no reason in needing to test him that way. And also, I´m not with him for material things. Even though that´s nice at times.
"My boss has no idea that my car is stolen." she said. "we stole it together. Spend the day following some cars around on his bike, later picked one and got there by night to get it."

"Ha-ha!" Bella chuckled with satisfaction as if it had been her initiative for Gambit to steal that car. "De funny thing is, he could buy it, but why buy when ya can steal? Dey really spoiled him in dis way. Maybe it's a part of deir philosophy. We ain't doin' like that, never so easy wit' de crime like Thieves are," she added with some pride.

There was obvious pride in her voice, Shade could tell. Maybe an effort to set herself above her husband. It felt funny to refer to him like that, but with it came glee.
"He actually gave me the choice." Shade said. "He would have bought me one."
