Kitty was in rare form. She'd been committed to her training regiment for over a year now and was in fantastic shape. Her first semester at NYU had recently ended, she and Doug had gotten an apartment together, and she was still working at Starbucks. Her Kung Fu was impeccable, and she'd finally gotten into the groove of meditation. Her schedule was always full, but she was happy and healthy.
On this particular sunny afternoon, Kitty was strolling down the sidewalk at a leisurely pace, considering her good fortune. Dressed, as usual, in an old t-shirt, ragged jeans, and trainers, she'd left the apartment with the intent to spend a few hours shopping for odds and ends her new home with Doug still lacked.
She'd been in the city long enough to learn how to move with the teeming masses on the sidewalk, and she paused momentarily to look into a promising shop window.

::Wraith had dispensed two of his agents to continue to prowl for promising young mutants. This brought the agents to the City, as it was a haven for mutants due to the diversity of population and the proximity to Xavier's school. As they drove, they had a small device which alerted them to mutants nearby, and they had a hit; now to track her.::

A co-worker had called in sick, and Aurora only had two hours after her shift before she had to be back at the restaurant to cover for the girl. Already tired, she dragged herself, still in full uniform, down the street toward her apartment. She looked down briefly at her name tag, which read Jeanne-Marie, and rolled her eyes. It was sometimes difficult to pretend to be the other girl.
She'd been hearing things recently, rumors among the mutants she knew, about kidnappings, and it was weighing heavily on her mind. She didn't know enough to act, and wasn't sure where to get more information. It made her feel helpless and frustrated. She just hoped that Jeanne-Marie wouldn't surface any time soon. She couldn't afford the lost time and honestly didn't have the patience of late.

Unaware that she was being watched, or that she was only a dozen or so yards ahead of another young mutant, Kitty lingered by the window for a few minutes and then moved on, her head full of nesting daydreams. She felt like a grown up for the first time, and was really excited about decorating the new apartment.
Her cell phone rang and she fished it out of her pocket, grinning when she saw Doug's number on the display. She accepted the call and began idly chatting as she walked, paying even less attention to her surroundings.

::The larger of the two men exited the car, leaving the smaller to keep the engine running. Tracking the girl they had caught wind of, he began to walk down the street, "blending in" to the effect of being a lost tourist. He had to get close to her, and then he could move. He noticed the mutant take out her cell phone, which would be advantageous, as she appeared to have stopped paying attention. Quickening his pace, he closed the distance between them.::

Ever vigilant, Aurora took note of a man exiting a car that wasn't a cab and filing into the pedestrian traffic. She observed him in the same way she observed the population at large, with no reason to single him out. After a few moments, he seemed to focus on something and starting walking faster, almost bumping into her. "Watch it!" she snapped, unaware of the man's intentions and already annoyed with the world in general.

Kitty's conversation with Doug ended with the obligatory sweetness common in young couples and she slipped her phone back into her pocket. Still smiling, she continued her stroll. She was starting to get hungry and considered her dining options. Two blocks ahead of her was a family-run pizza parlor, and after weighing her options, it became her new destination.

::The woman that he bumped into also set off the sensor in his watch, indicating that she was a mutant as well, but she wasn't the one he'd tagged and been ordered to pick up. She was an irritation at the moment, slowing him down, and he turned, not quite pushing her away as he stepped around her.:: "Same to you."
::Fortunately, the young girl hadn't gotten too far ahead of him, and he continued to get closer to her, until he was essentially right behind her.::

Aurora was fuming at this point, but didn't let it show. She just took a deep breath and glared at the man as he hurried away. Her break was way too short to spend in shouting matches with idiots on the street.

Even in her daydreaming state, Kitty's reflexes were sharp. She sensed someone was behind her, and until she could assess the situation without drawing attention, she just began walking a little faster and tried not to let her body language betray her concern. Her internal warning system alerted her often, and it was usually just someone walking too close, so she didn't want to overreact.

::The target had increased her pace, and so too did the agent. As they walked, he noticed an upcoming alley, which would work perfectly for the kidnap. Approaching it, he walked to her side, blocking her from view to the street, and then deliberately bumped her with his hip.::

Aurora noticed the object of the man's focus and all petty frustration was forgotten. She watched him catch up with her and began to force her way through the crowd, no specific plan in mind. Unfortunately, the crowd on the sidewalk was not cooperative and the more she struggled, the more they hindered her progress. Suddenly, the girl being followed was out of sight, and Aurora shouted, "MOVE!" and pushed her way toward a nearby alley, where she could still see the man. Her instinct drove her, she simply felt that something was wrong, and it drew her in.

Kitty's sense of danger was actualized as she was hip-checked into a nearby alley. She stumbled, but was quickly on her feet again. She spun around to face the man who had been following her, already in a defensive stance. Statistically, if a woman on a crowded street yells that she's being attacked, passersby make an effort to avoid the situation. Kitty knew that and so didn't bother calling out. She felt confident that she could defend herself against a mugger or even a common rapist.

::The man was impressed, insofar as the mutant didn't scream or kick in a manner characteristic of an unsuspecting woman. Depending on how well she fought, she would prove useful to Wraith, but it could also, theoretically, make her more difficult to capture. The agent was confident in his training and his equipment, and he immediately rushed her, intending to push her into the alley.::

Aurora watched the man rush the girl and they both disappeared into the alley. In her waitressing uniform, she wouldn't be able to move as fast as she'd like to, plus the crowd was still an issue. She glanced around, and realized that, even though the crowd was thick, no one seemed to care about or even take notice of what was going on around them. With as little noise as possible, she took flight, moving fast enough to avoid being noticed. She circled over the alley, trying to stay out of sight.
