"You're a stranger here, and he's the security detail," she said, nodding at Pietro. "What you have to say can be said in front of him."

::If Pietro wished to show muscle or throw around authority, he would cross his arms over his chest and nod. However, he still did not trust this girl, and her forcefield made her a potential threat. To Skids, he said,:: "You talk here or not at all."

Skids swallowed and flicked her gaze between the pair. Deciding she should just get it over with, she sighed. She didn't want to die, but she'd rather be dead than defenseless again.
Taking a breath, she began. "Fine. Look," she said, directing her attention to Typhoid. "I know you left the Morlocks. What I need to know is why. Rumor was that Charles Xavier brainwashed you, erased your memories and turned you against the other 'locks. Is this true? Because if it is, I don't have anywhere to go. I can't go home; my dad..." She trailed off, not wanting to admit the truth about her father, even now. "He kicked me out," she finished lamely, looking at the floor. Swallowing, she continued, "I know Xavier takes in mutants, but if it's just to make them mindless zombies, like Masque said, I don't want to stay here. You see?"

Typhoid almost laughed...almost. It would have been rude, so she didn't. Rumors were rumors, but on the street they were as good as proof of a thing, sometimes. But still, the question was...unfortunately funny. "You do know that if I were brainwashed, I probably wouldn't admit it, right?"

::The idea of Uncle brainwashing anyone was absurd, more so than many other true aspects of life. Pietro was not prone to laughter and thus did not, nor did he roll his eyes at the absurdity of the question; Rossignol's answer was what he would have said, pointing out the fatal flaw int he inane question. As that was covered, he spoke, as it was a matter of loyalty and honesty,:: "Your mind is safer with Charles Xavier than it was with the Morlocks."

Skids looked between the two again; Typhoid looked like she wanted to laugh and the cop, Pietro, looked...well, like he had for the past hour: stoic and slightly annoyed. She glared at them both, irritated. "Look, it may be a dumb question, but I've considered coming to Xavier for help and its the only reason I have not to. And," she added, "it's pretty much a deal breaker if it's true."

Typhoid wasn't prepared to give this girl her whole life story, but she could most definitely vouch for Xavier. "I was a lot worse off before I got here then after. Besides that..." She gestured with one finger to the air around them."...if he wanted to brainwash someone, he wouldn't even have to be in the same room. He's only one floor above us, so consider yourself safe."

::This Skids was not listening, and Pietro was quite tempted to ask, "What did I just say?" That would get nowhere. Instead, he said, and conveniently not mentioning his disagreement with the older man's naivety,:: "He is a man of honor."

Skids turned her glare on Pietro. "Excuse me," she snapped, "but you're a cop, so forgive me if I don't take your word to heart."
Turning back to Typhoid, she asked, "What was the catch? For his help, I mean."

Typhoid did laugh a little this time, although it was more at her own memories then Skids question. "Aside from 'don't blow up the Mansion by accident or on purpose,' there is no catch." She held up a finger to forestall comments. "Before you say it, I know that's hard to believe. But it's true, and Pietro's correct: the Professor is honorable." She nodded her head at Pietro. "Listen to what he says, he's been here longer then I have."

::Pietro had enough discipline, and a long enough history with being berated, that he didn't give into the instinct to send her flying into the wall; besides, she was a child, albeit an ignorant, irritating one.:: "This is my house, so check your tone."

Skids glared at Pietro, but held her tongue. She didn't like him; he was pushy.
Pretending to deliberate her situation, she turned her attention back to Typhoid once more. "Do you think he would help me?"

"I don't know, you'd have to ask him," she replied. "Getting caught sneaking onto the grounds wasn't exactly the best introductory move, but I doubt he'll turn you away."

Skids hung her head. "I know," she said. "But, in my defense, I wasn't looking for trouble. Honest."
Turning to Pietro, she tilted her head to the side. "So, where do I find Charlie Xavier?" Biting her lip, she asked, "Am I allowed to call him that?"

"No," ::Pietro said automatically. He would do Uncle a favor and nip that in the bud.:: "You can call him 'Professor,' and you can talk to him in the morning."
