Raven looked up, seeing Charles enter the bedroom. "Hello, Charles," Raven said. She closed the drawer she was in, and set out two new shirts.

"Tomorrow, I can ask Scott to help you move your clothing," ::Xavier said, wheeling further into the bedroom. It would save them both time and these chance encounters.::

"No, that's fine," She said, shaking her head. "I was wondering if I could talk to you, actually." She stepped away from the clothing, and moved closer to the bed.

"Yes?" ::Xavier's tone was one of tried patience.::

Raven sat down on the bed, gazing not at him, but at her hands in her lap. His tone hurt her. "Would you..." She felt her chest constrict, but continued. "Would you have still supported me, even if I had mentioned the one time I had been with him?"

::That was a question Xavier had asked himself many times over these past couple of weeks. He sighed softly before responding,:: "I would have wanted a paternity test run, and the restuls would have played a role."

"She is still your daughter," Raven said quietly. She looked up at him, feeling as though her heart was breaking.

::Xavier pursed his lips together, calming himself before he might have a lapse in control.:: "It is not the same; it will never be the same."

"Her love for you doesn't matter less because of her paternity," Raven said softly. "It doesn't negate fifteen years of being a family." Fifteen years of nothing but mutual affection and devotion.

"I will treat her no differently," ::Xavier said immediately; he was incapable of treating her as anything but his own child. That did not change the rest of the situation.:: "But you cannot understand this, because she is yours."

"I know," Raven said quietly. That she did know. "I'm so sorry, Charles," She said, feeling the tears finally come. They silently spread down her blue cheeks.

::Xavier did not wish her to cry; at the same time, this was not a situation where he could simply say "all is forgiven" and end the matter. It was simply too much.:: "I know you are, Raven. But you did not break a vase in the hall, and apologies are irrelevant."

"I know," She said, her expression miserable. "And yet I can't help it." She couldn't help apologizing, couldn't help the way she reacted, because she was responsible for all of this grief. "I am sorry that I've caused you so much pain."

::Xavier knew that. He was not so vain nor did he think so little of her integrity to believe she had done this purposefully to hurt him, or to manipulate him. That brought him little comfort, and that was conveyed in his tone and expression.:: "I know."

She would like to believe that things would have still worked out, even had they known this from the beginning. "I wanted to stay and find the 'why' in you," She said, partly to herself, remembering the early days of their relationship.
