Kitty giggled and pulled her shoulder up to her ear. "That tickles." She said, then turned her head to kiss him.

Doug smiled and kissed her, holding her lips to his by her cheek. "I love you," he slurred against her lips, a goofy grin on his face.

Even in her drunken state, this proclamation gave Kitty a shock. She pulled away from him, her eyes wide. "Woah, Dougie. You don't know what you're saying." She said, trying to cover her shock with a thin laugh.

"Yes I do," he sang, grinning stupidly. This is why Doug and alcohol didn't mix.

Kitty wiggled away from him, pulling her legs over to her side of the cab. She had no idea how to handle this and was too drunk to really evaluate things rationally. She rested her forehead against the cab's window, frowning.

Doug frowned and lay down on the cab seat, his head on her lap. In less than a few moments, he was asleep.

Kitty absentmindedly stroked Doug's hair as the city passed by outside the cab. She looked down and saw that he was asleep. "Scuse me, Mister?" Kitty called out. The driver made eye contact via the rear view mirror and answered, "Yes, ma'am?" Kitty scratched her forehead and asked, "What time is it?" The driver looked at his watch and said, "ten till twelve. I should have you two home by midnight."

Doug murmured in his sleep in a mixture of French and German. Not much would be understandable to Kitty, except perhaps 'gatita'.

Kitty sighed and watched Doug mumble in his sleep. She hoped he hadn't completely lost his mind.

Eight and a half minutes later, the cab pulled up outside the mansion. "Here we are, ma'am," the driver said to Kitty. "Xavier Institute." Motioning to Doug, who still slumbered, he asked, "He going to be okay?"

Kitty sighed heavily. "I honestly don't know." She said, then leaned over until her face was right next to his and said, "Dougie, wake up."

Blinking at the sound of her voice, Doug's eyes opened narrowly. He smiled. "Hey there, beautiful," he murmured. "What's going on?" It took him a moment longer to realize they were back at the mansion. He sat up quickly. "Oh." He held his head against the spinning that suddenly started. Swearing in German under his breath, he asked the driver, "How much do I owe you?"
"Forty eight fifty," he replied. Since it was New Year's, and the kid was obviously drunk, he gave them a bit of a discount; unfortunately, it was a long drive from NYC to Westchester, and he had to refill his gas tank before his shift ended.
Doug just nodded and pulled out a fifty from his wallet. He handed it to the man, waving away the change. He smiled over at Kitty as he opened the door. "Ready, gorgeous?" he asked.

Kitty smiled, hoping that he had already forgotten what he had said, and nodded.

Doug slid out, and then bent to give his hand to help Kitty.

Kitty took Doug's hand and slid out of the cab, then turned around and retrieved her shoes. The cab pulled away and Kitty turned to face Doug. Knowing there was an old grandfather clock in the foyer of the mansion, Kitty took Doug's hand and started pulling him toward the door. "C'mon, Dougie, hurry!"
