::The Professor was proud of her for that decision and for the sense of responsibility she possessed in order to arrive at it. It was reflected in his expression and his mental tone.:: *The others will be grateful for your support.*

She nodded, eyes smiling because her mouth could not. She felt his pride in her, and that made her feel slightly better. Because she knew she was doing the right thing for the right reason. *I just hope I can really help...some of the others have powers that can do serious damage to those things, and I don't know how effective I'll be against them.*

*Your team will find strength from your presence,* ::The Professor reassured her mentally. She would be able to fight, and to support, if that is what she wished.::

She nodded. *Thank you, sir. Where...where will you be?* she asked him, turning to look at him fully. She didn't remember if he had told the training teams what he would be doing during this battle.

::The Professor gazed into her deep, brown eyes, her striped features. Her concern for him was evident in her mental voice.:: *I will be leading my own team.*

*Please be careful,* she asked, mental voice quiet and afraid. *Professor, can I...say something honestly, between us?* She knew he would keep it between them, but she just had to ask him and confirm that he would.

*I shall be,* ::The Professor mentally reassured her. He and the others would be as careful as they could be; however it would remain a risky situation. At her question, he nodded.:: *Of course you may, Kyra.*

Kyra took a nervous breath. *Well, sir, I wanted to say this to you our last night in Texas, but I kinda lost my nerve. I don't mean to overstep any boundaries, being your student and all, but...you're like the dad I never had. Sir,* she added quickly. *I wanted to tell you, before we both go into...this.* And that was certainly true. She'd wanted to tell him before they both went into a battle, where the outcome was uncertain, and she might not be able to tell him, if something happened to either of them.
Her deep brown eyes looked at him, and, with concentration, she shivered, her form changing slightly, until her face was completely human, and her body looked more human, though still covered in a soft layer of fur.

::The conversation was all too reminsicnet of one the Professor had shared with Jade, ten months ago. He had moved from the connection they had shared, how false it as, and forgiven Raven the betrayal. He had also in the time since Kyra had come to the Institute forged a connection with her, similar as she had been to Jade; no longer did he think of Jade as *his* Strype. Meeting her brown eyes with his blue ones, he replied to her sentiment, is mental voice gentle and caring.:: *Truth be told, Kyra, I view you as a daughter.*

His words caused her body to tremble slightly, and her big brown eyes filled with tears, as she felt something inside her break. The love she had been looking for in her family, and in Jim, it was here.

::She had transformed into a more human shape, and the Professor lay a hand on her arm, a gentle touch, encouraging. His other hand removed his handkerchief from his pocket, so he could dry her tear, although he knew they were tears of sentimentalism, rather than sorrow.::

She felt his hand on her arm, reassuring her, while he removed his handkerchief and dabbed her tears away. Like a parent with a child. "Thank you," she said softly, her vocal cords human once more. It was more than the fact that he was drying her tears, but because he cared too.

::The Professor smiled a soft, affectionate smile, his hand rubbed her arm gently.:: "You are deserving of affection, Kyra; please never doubt that."

"Yes, sir," she said, nodding. Staying here, it made her happier than she'd been in a long, long time. Now all they had to do was survive this threat. She shivered, though it was more from the cold than from fear of what was to come.

::The Professor noticed the shiver run through her; the air outside had turned far too cool for recreation, and he glanced towards the mansion.:: "It is growing late; perhaps we should go inside."
