"I know that," she replied. After looking at the bottle again, as if silently asking it to speak to her, she took another swig from it. It still burned, but at least she was getting a warm feeling in her feet, which had been cold up until now.
"Are you contemplating what will happen during Wideawake?" She asked softly, looking up at him once more.

::Pietro nodded. He would be thrust deeply into the center of the battle and by necessity he needed to get close.:: "Yes."

Wanda had not let herself contemplate what would happen to them as individuals during this final battle; each time she would accidentally hex something, and that should be avoided at all costs. But now that Pietro was here, sitting next to her and discussing it, as well as the liquor loosening her tongue, she was able to speak freely.
"I'm worried as well," she admitted. "I don't want to die, don't want to watch our friends get hurt or killed."

::Pietro did not want to see any of them hurt or their lives taken, though he realized it was inevitable. This would only result in losses, and they had to fight for them to weigh more heavily on the side of Wideawake.:: "You will not fall as long as I stand."

She took another swig from the bottle. "I wish I could say the same, Pietro, I do. I will protect you until I fall, but I'm worried I'm not strong enough."

::Pietro reached out, lay his hand against his sister's cheek. This was how they hadalways been, each surer that the other was stronger.:: "You are stronger than I, Wanda. You will do what you can."

"You've always said that," she whispered softly. They had always, even as teens, seen the other twin as stronger. The hand not holding the bottle of vodka came up to rest on top of his. "And we can only do as much as we are able to."

::Pietro nodded once; it was the truth, he always had, but it did not make it less true. A pause, a silence, and then,:: "I wish to be burned."

She shivered, not expecting him to say that. "Why?" Was all she could ask.

::This was a morbid direction for the conversation. Pietro knew this, and yet with his thoughts these past weeks, it came naturally. The world would end in fire or ice, and he favored fire.:: "I wish to be scattered."

She nodded. As his hand slipped from her cheek, she reached out to grasp it tightly. "I will be with you," she promised.

::Pietro sandwiched her hands between his, using the touch to anchor them both.:: "I will fall in your stead, Wanda."

"I'd rather you not fall at all, Pietro," she said honestly, looking down at their sandwiched hands before looking back up into his sad eyes.

"I know," ::Pietro said, his eyes locked on hers. He would prefer not to fall either, but the more he anticipated the battle, the more easily he realized that it might happen. If he fell for another, for his sister, Rossignol, one of the X-Men or a child, it would be worthwhile.:: "If I do, it won't be without a fight."

"And I will be by your side," she promised. It was how they had survived, protecting the other as if there were no other option.
