Shade was enough in a rage not to flinch at the awful sound of breaking bone, a state that was unusual for her but she didn´t mind.
However, she did not react fast enough to avoid the counter attack. Kate´s kick hit her hard against the hip and she gave a grunt of pain when it knocked her off her feet. Somehow she managed not to lose her grip on the pointer, but that was probably mere luck. She hit the floor hard and since her concentration switched towards trying to take some force out of her fall, her powers slipped for a split second. It would not have happened, had she not used her stealth earlier, bu that had worn her out and made her grip on her power lapse for an instant where usually extra focus on keeping it up was not necessary.

Kate moaned again as her own movement caused tremendous pain in her broken arm. But it would heal soon, she knew. In a couple of days it would be as good as new. The beauty of being a vampire.
She saw a woman's figure flicker and disappear again in front of her. There! Growling in rage, she jumped and vaulted in that direction, aiming to pin the person- thing- whatever it was- down with her weight. --- Gambit made his way to the nightstand, slowly. Opening the drawer, he went through the many things lying there. His mind was foggy and it took him longer than usual to make valid decisions. So it was only after he decided NOT to take the large vibrator lying there, and instead picked what he was hoping to find in the drawer - the dagger-shaped letter opener he'd given Shade months ago as a birthday present. --- The kitchen door opened slowly, a little, and Connie peeked out carefully. She'd heared a voice cry out earlier, and it had sounded like her mother's.

Shade frantically tried to scramble away from the woman, scurrying backwards on her feet and hands, but the pain in her hip had nearly made her see stars for a moment and she gasped in pain once more, trying rather unsuccessfully to force it down.
When Kate leaped at her, she was already some inches along the floor, no far enough to escape, but far enough to not be pinned completely. She had been trying to roll over, her left hand already moved to roll over and growled in fear, anger and pain when the other woman landed on top of her, pinning down the lower part of her body up to her waist and, finding her right hand with the pointer couldn´t be moved in a big enough radius for a strike, brought the backside of her left hand square across Kate´s face.

The blow only seemed to spur Kate on. Dammit, she was going to end this, that way or another! Her arm was giving her constant heavy pain, making her lose some of her concentration, but she could handle it with another. She crawled further up Shade's body, trying to immobilize her and hopefully reach for the nearest vein she could get. -- Gambit held the knife tight in his fist as he made his way, too slowly, too unconfidently out of the bedroom and into the hallway. -- "Mama?" Connie squeaked quietly, staring at what was going on in the hallway. She was still just peeking through the small hole of the partly opened door.

Her slap didn´t seem to have much of an effect and Shade was now truly starting to panic. She had seen those pointy teeth before and had by now drawn the right conclusion about them which only spurred her fear - but her resistance as well. She gave a yell and let go of the pointer, using the hand that had held it to ram it into Kate´s side.
Using all her strength, she started to wriggle in Kate´s strengthening grasp, now turning towards flickering on and off her powers in rapid succession in the hope that this would distract her opponent with that irratic pattern of parts of her appearing and disappearing like some weird scroboscope effect. In her panic she was oblivious to what happened around her and therefore neither noticed Gambit nor Connie.

Kate's head snapped up at the sound of her daughter's voice. "Stay there!" she growled at Connie. "And shut the damn door!" At once she was hit in the side, and groaned in pain and frustration.
Connie quickly did so; she was too scared to disobey. But she remained closely behind the door, listening.
Kate returned her attention to the struggling creature underneath her. Sitting up on one knee, she placed her hand onto Shade's arm, pinning it down and at the same time gaining support and leverage, and raised her other leg to place her spike heeled boot into Shade's shoulder to keep her fixed in this position.
Gambit stumbled out of the bedroom, closing in on the two.

The pain blended out anythng else for a moment and Shade lost completel control of her powers, her strength completely focussing on trying to escape the pain and panicking even more when she found herself incapable of doing so. She gave a loud scream and started to desperately struggle with her legs that were more or less free now. She wasn´t too successful in this, partly because the sharp pain in her shoulder was weakening much of her ambition to fight back, partly because her legs weren´t really in reach of causing harm.

Kate moved further up along Shade's body, keeping her foot on Shade's shoulder, and was now able to lean down to bite Shade's neck.
Just as she was doing it, Gambit finally reached them and all but fell forward onto his knees, adding his weight to the force with which he pushed the blade into Kate's back.

The pain in her shoulder, caused by the spiked heel, was taking away much of Shade´s coordination. She was in a rather tricky situation, pinned like this, and even the extra strength that her panic set free, didn´t help to gain enough control.
She half yelled, half growled when she felt Kate´s teeth bite down on her neck, her instincts demanding to shove the other woman away and off her but she couldn´t.

Kate screamed loudly, inhuman shrieking notes added to her usual voice. Her body jerked back from Shade, tensing upwards as if she were pierced by a bolt of electricity. She would lose her consciousness in the next moment.
Gambit lost his strength and collapsed on the floor, passing out as well.

Shade couldn´t explain what was going on. Ever since Kate had jumped at her, she had perceive her environment as through a haze that consisted only of the two of them with herself frantically struggling. Then, all of a sudden, Kate screamed, making Shade clench her eyes shut and want to clasp her hands over her ears since the other woman´s shriek was hard to bear so close to her own ears. Then the other one´s teeth were suddenly gone from her neck and Shade gave a choked sound, resisting the urge to touch for the thin line of blood she could feel run down the side of her neck. Instead, she acted on instinct once more and used both her arms to shove the vampire off her and to the side, digging her fingers into the other woman´s shoulders, kicking her feet as she did so, rage, fear and confusion raging through her mind. She was unable to tell what was going on and what had kept Kate from...
"Gambit!" Her voice sounded hoarse and stiffled and her eyes widened when she saw him. He had passed out before Shade had spotted him, still struggling, all she saw was that he was lying there and there was blood on him. Her mind racing, she kept trying to push Kate off her completely, biting her teeth togetherm unable to keep her eyes from watering since her shoulder and hip hurt like hell and her neck was not exactly helping either.

So Shade was now basically left with Gambit, who was still bleeding and unconscious, with his vampiric ex-girlfriend, who was unconscious as well and had the knife-like letter opener sticking out of her back now, and with their scared little daughter somewhere in the kitchen. And it was finally quiet in the apartment now.

Finally managing to free herself from under the unconscious vampire, Shade kicked her legs once more, pushing the motionless body of the other woman aside and spotting the letter opener. She stared at it, but just for a second or two, because her attention lay elsewhere.
Her hip was making it problematic to crawl, so she tried to scramble on her hands and knees. Her body reacted with sending her head dizzy and she suppressed a feeling of sickness hat was threatening to take over. Fortunately, she had just lost a very small amount of blood, but the fight and the blows she had received in it, had weakened her.
Breathing heavily, her heart racing she managed to drag herself over to Gambit, feeling even more scared now than before. He had lost far more blood than she had and he was not moving and she nearly panicked over that, but somehow managed to partly fight that panic down and reach for his neck. Her fingers were shaking and with all the blood it was difficult to tell where the actual bite was, but she found what she had been searching for and nearly closed her eyes in relief: a pulse. Crawling closer, her eyes darted around the silent corridor. She needed...something... something to get him back to his senses, something to stop the bleeding. And some ... phone to call the damn ambulance. For a second she felt at a loss of what to do and how to sort priorities. She had learnt somewhen, long ago it seemed in some random first aid class at highschool that one had to use pressure, press something against a wound to stop the blood flow and it scared her to see Gambit was unconscious.
She acted as fast as she could, scrambled to her feet and nearly toppled over the vampire as she made her way to the bedroom. It was the closest room and there was a sink in the small spare bathroom that closed on to it. Staggering towards it she found she needed all her strength to make it towards the door, her blood smeared fingers leaving red marks on the wallpaper. Somehow she managed to get some water from the sink. It wasn´t much, just a glass full and she spilled a bit of it on her way back and while hastily rumaging over the nightstand to grab for Gambit´s cell phone. Then she staggered back, tried to set the glass down as carefully as she could before she remembered she had nothing, no cloth to press onto the wound.
Her eyes panickingly straying over Gambit´s motionless face, she just straightened up again and ripped her shirt over her head, nearly yelling with pain when the abrupt motion strained her shoulder. She was nearing the end of her own strengths, but fear of what might happen if she didn´t hurry pushed her to her limits. She sank to her knees and pressed the cloth against Gambit´s neck where most of the blood was, before she reached for the glass and sprayed some of the cold water into Gambit´s face. "Come on...." she whispered, her voice heavy with fear and on the edge of sobbing. "...wake up.... don´t..."

Gambit had gotten pale by now; he hadn't lost enough blood to die, but enough to make him pass out every now and then. It could be Shade's efforts that made him come to, this time; at least his bleeding was stopped by the cloth pressed to his neck.
He opened his eyes, looking at Shade above him. It made him think that his attempt did not go to waste, after all. He was just hoping he didn't kill Kate. He didn't want to kill her.

Shade didn´t know much about medical training, heck she had never had one. She didn´t know how much blood loss was problematic nor did she know how much Gambit had lost exactly. But she could see he didn´t look good and she could feel her eyes start to water, partly because she was scared for him, partly because she was relieved to see him open his eyes. The scene was rousing bad memories and she swallowed hard, forcing herself to remember that it took a lot to take Gambit down.
Her one hand still pressing the cloth against th wound she returned his gaze. He was probably too weak to speak and she didn´t want him to waste any strength. Her hand groped for the cell phone that she had dropped somewhere just a moment ago and she saw it lie about half a metre away from her where she could just reach it with her other arm. "You´ll be fine..." she said, her voice shallow. "I´ll call you help..." With shaking fingers she started to dial 911. Now don´t lose your nerves, Shade, she scolded herself.
