The girl immediately turned around and her face lit with a smile. "Really?" she asked. "I like a trick."

"Yeah." Shade heard herself say. The situation was somewhat awkward even though this could of course very well just be some coincidence, but in addition this girl was still rather young and Shade was usually better with older kids or teenagers.
She cowered down again when Connie turned around. "You got to tell me what sort of trick you want though." she said strangely being somewhat blank about her usual creativity when it came to her powers. "something more pretty or something more spooky?"

Finding the meat had browned sufficiently, Gambit reduced the heat and closed the pan with the lid. Now he was finally able to glance into the hallway and see what was taking Shade so long, so he took a step in that direction.

"Pretty!" the girl exclaimed, clasping her hands together in anticipation. Her quest for candies hadn't been too successful, and she had vague suspicions that it could probably have something to do with her appearance, but was generally blissfully unaware of more specific details. And while she did get some candies, having someone even go as far as show her a trick was a very unusual thing, and she'd love to see a trick.

´Damn´Shade thought since spooky would have offered a larger variety. Right, an inner voice told her, awesome idea to yet your eyeballs vanish or something and scare the little girl to death. "Okay." she said, thinking for a moment. Her fine tunings had gotten better but were still far from perfect. Had they been really good, she would have simply done something like doodle some pretty patterns onto her own face, but the risk it was coming out as shaky and uneven and showing bone was a little high right now. She therefore decided for something far more simple. Staying where she was, she simple let herself disappear in a wave-like movement, feet first then legs and all the way up to her head until she was completely gone. She stayed invisible for maybe two seconds then repeated the trick in the revease, letting her feet appear first.

Shade's neat invisibility trick came very handy at the moment; Gambit, who was standing behind Shade, was able to see through her and realize it was, in fact, his daughter standing in the hallway dressed as the Little Red Riding-Hood and staring at Shade.
"Constance..?" he called, completely ignoring Shade's presence for a second, his voice slightly betraying his confusion.

Connie had her eyes glued to Shade and then to the empty space that had been Shade, and she didn't immediately respond when she heard Gambit calling her name. However, she saw him through Shade and even recognized him, remembering the man with the same eyes as hers.
"Hi," she grinned and raise her hand to wave at him.

Her re-appearance turned out a lot less smooth than she had planned and the fluent movement turned into more of a popping back into visibility. Dumbstuck, Shade just didn´t move for a moment, staring at the kid before she got to her feet and turned slowly, stepping aside, her eyes darting towards Gambit. She had no idea what sort of an expression she was wearing right now just as much as her mind was blank about what to say or how to react.

So it was her. Frowning, confused and somewhat at a loss at his daughter's appearance on his threshold, Gambit walked towards her, passing Shade. "What th' hell are ya doin' here? Here, in New York? Didn't ya move to Jackson?"
"We did, and then we moved to New York," Connie nodded, readily sharing the information with him.

Shade had moved to the side a little, but was still standing close by. She refused the urge to blink a few times. The image was so bizarre that it could as well be some odd dream, but she knew it wasn´t. She dully realised that seeing Gambit with a kid - no, correction, seeing Gambit with his kid - was probably among the strangest things she had ever seen, for some reason she could not really explain. So she just stood there before taking a step back for the moment rather uncapable of much thinking.

"Great..." Gambit muttered, running his hand over his head. Just perfect. Then he remembered about Shade and felt even worse. He stepped towards the door and closed it, finally, then looked at Connie. "Wait here a second," he said and then walked back to Shade, taking her by the elbow and pulling her into one of the rooms.

Shade had not said a word since Gambit had spotted Connie, it was one of the truly rare moments where she was totally at a loss of what to say. Had she never asked herself whether there were kids of him running around? Well, somehow she had, it was just logical...statistically. A part of her rolled eyes at her for thinking a word like ´statistics´ but then again she was trying to order her thoughts and didn´t really know what to think for now. She had never really envisioned such a situation even though she had probably guessed there was a huge likeness he had kids. But having one turn up on his doorstep was a whole different kettle of fish. She let herself be pulled after him.

Gambit dragged Shade into the room and closed the door behind them. His mind was racing. There was probably not much point in denying the facts, and he knew Shade was usually rather observant and had probably drawn some conclusions by now - not to mention that his own spontaneous reaction had been quite telling, and he scolded himself for that single moment of weakness.
He placed his hands on his hips, looking down and to the side, thinking what to say and how.
"She's my daughter," he said finally.

Shade briefly wondered for whom of the two of them this situation was more awkward - and didn´t really find an answer to that question. Just as to the many other questions that were starting to swirl around her mind in that moment. Starting from ´where is her mum?´ or even ´Daughter as in there´s probably a furious wife now lurking behind the next corner?´ (since she had not really registered Gambit mention Jackson which wouldn´t have fitted New Orleans) down to ´Does she know that?´ even though that didn´t seem to be too relevant. All other questions were either unaccessible for now or irrelevant. A ´What? You have a daughter?´ was not really at the tip of her tongue cause part of her had now and then considered the possibilty even though not in detail.
She kept silent for a moment, not sure how to react. "I guessed." she then said her voice somewhat flat and betraying her confused state of mind at the moment. "from the moment I opened the door." It was a rather dull thing to say but she was still trying to sort through possible reactions. It had to be obvious now to Gambit why she had been so ... off when looking for candy.

"I thought ya did," Gambit nodded, still studying the floor - not because he was too ashamed to look at Shade or something, but because there were too many things on his mind at the moment and he was partly distracted by those. Shade didn't seem to be about to throw a scandal because of any of this, so that was already something to count on.
"Dieu, what IS she doin' here?!" he glanced at the door, repeating the same question he'd asked Connie a moment ago.
