"You can't be too lonely. There's a lot of people at the mansion." Maya said and then looked straight ahead for a moment with a smirk. "I do understand how you could get bored, though."

"That's why I said 'bordering'," Michael remarked. "I don't have you near."

Maya's smirk faded and she looked to him. "Sorry about that. I just can't- well, you know. I think I've said it enough times."

"I know," Michael nodded. "Don't apologize. I'm not blaming you. It's just how it is. At least I'm trying to take it that way." He wasn't losing hope they could still find a way to be together eventually, but so far there wasn't any light at the end of the tunnel and he often felt clueless about the whole situation.

Maya nodded softly and sighed. "Michael-" She stopped short at seeing a cafe and she stopped walking. "Why don't we go in there and sit. Put all cards on the table, so we can figure out how we're going to do this." She said and looked at him with sad eyes. She wanted to be with him, but she didn't know how when they were on opposite sides.

"Sounds like an idea," Michael nodded. Now that Maya's personality had changed, she was far more confident and it wasn't the first time when he found her already a step ahead. He didn't mind that; the fact that he himself was reserved and cautious about most anything didn't mean he couldn't keep up with someone who wasn't. It was simply a different level of being prepared for things.
He followed Maya to the café.

Maya walked in and just took a seat at a table. A waitress had come over and she just ordered a cup of tea and waited for the waitress to take Michael's order and leave.

Michael ordered an orange juice. He waited until the waitress left, and asked, "So what is it about me that makes it difficult for you to just see me?" he asked. "Just the fact that I'm a student at Xavier's?"

"Yeah." Maya said with a nod. "You're a student at Xavier's, most likely going to be apart of the X-Men and I'm...An enemy." She sighed.

"That's just theory," Michael shook his head slightly. "So what am I supposedly going to do, according to this, try and lure you back into the X-mansion?"

Maya rolled her eyes and shook her head. "No. That's not exactly what I meant and there's no theory about me being an enemy." She said and then looked down at the table. "I'm Brotherhood, Michael." She whispered.

Michael frowned slightly, then sighed. She'd dropped enough hints for him to guess she'd gotten herself into something unpleasant, but he didn't expect that.
He now realized it went nicely together with her confession earlier back at the mansion that she hated humans now. Some other pieces of the puzzle fitted together, too.
"Maya, you can't be my enemy just because I live in the Institute," he said firmly, keeping his voice low lest somebody overheard. "And I'm not an X-Man." He had had some thoughts about asking to be part of the team, but he had enough reasons to rethink them now.

"No, I guess not." Maya said with a small nod and looked up at him. Her voice low enough for just him to hear. "And it doesn't matter if your an X-Man now, it matters if you were planning on joining in the future. And if you do, I don't want to hold you back from that."

Michael leaned forward on the table. "I seriously don't get it," he said honestly. "I used to think that nothing could keep me from being with you if we both wanted to, but I didn't expect a situation like this. So let's look at the worst possible outcome - what will happen if we're dating and I'm an X-Man?"

Maya ran a hand through her hair. "I don't know. I'm worried okay. I don't want John or anyone to hurt you and I don't want you to hate me. By the time your an X-Man you'll hate me for what I do."
