::As simply as a butterfly flapping its wings, the young woman had managed to take the upper hand away from Odin, with a simple question. There went his ability to challenge back and forth.:: "Mutation, primarily."

So that explained it, Emily thought. Still, she tried not to show any emotional reaction at that statement. "That's quite a hobby," she remarked. "Any particular aspect of mutation?"

"All aspects are fascinating," ::Odin said, his expression shifting to one of mild fondness, as occurred when he began on a topic he enjoyed. Or one he held as close to his heart as he did this.:: "But development is where it all begins, to make a very poor joke."

"Are you a geneticist?" Emily asked. He could be and he could be not, of course, but the most logical thing for her was to assume a person could be interested in a scientific field first of all because of being involved in it firsthand.

"Not quite," ::Odin replied. To think it had only been three years since graduation, and he hadn't done any research worthy of his degree in seven months at this point.:: "Actually, I work for a magazine on the topic."

"Oh," Emily nodded, "so you're a journalist, then?" However, with none of the necessary attributes of the profession - cameras, microphones, notepads - he still seemed a common passer by that had simply stopped for a simple conversation. She didn't know what to make of him, and the conversation felt rather puzzling to her.

::Odin shook his head slightly in denial, that subtle shake he used which didn't cause loss of dignity and also drew attention away from a flat denial.:: "No, I'm in marketing."

"I see," Emily said, though she could really see very little. "So, I presume, you would rather talk about the development of mutation?"

::Odin was quite familiar with the development of mutation, and tended not to fish for those details during conversation. He was more interested in lives.:: "I'd rather know what brings you here on this bright summer day."

"That's quite a change of topic," Emily said. "Well, I decided to spend some time reading," she replied, which was completely true and also quite obvious.

::To Odin, it wasn't a change of topic as he hadn't started the discussion on the trend she'd taken it; and as it had been borne of her attempts to know what he discussed, it could hardly be said to be his doing.:: "Job hunting, I see."

"Yes, that, too," Emily nodded. She still struggled to see the point of the conversation, so she decided to be upfront about it. "Why have you chosen me as someone to have a conversation with?"

::She was full of questions, which used to amuse Odin but this past year only served to move him to impotence. Fighting the compulsion wasn't worth the effort, as he'd succumb and then lose face as well.:: "I enjoy speaking to other mutants; I prefer mutant company."

"No one said I was a mutant," Emily said with a small frown. She tried to leave some personal space for herself by not allowing others to make assumptions about her based solely on her appearance.

"That's right," ::Odin said with a nod. No questions asked, he could fall back into his more playful personality.:: "Nobody said you were. Except I will now."
