(( this one's closed ))
Finally giving his bike some rest after many days of travelling, Gambit stopped at a bar in upper Manhattan. Finding a more secluded place there, he sat down, got himself a cup of coffee and lit a cigarette. He had called Shade an hour or so earlier, so probably she was already on her way here to meet him.
It took him a couple of cigarettes to study the patrons of the bar with a lazy but attentive eye. Even if the red sparkles of his eyes gave his identity away from the shaded corner where he sat, he didn't care.

It had been easy enough for her to get away from the mansion, especially with the few lessons she was teaching and an afternoon off. One point Shade had always liked about her job and life at Xavier´s was that she could be pretty spontaneous and flexible about things and she knew Gambit appreciated that, too. He had been away for a good two weeks, as usual without her having much of an idea where he had gone off to, but that was nothing new and didn´t take away anything of the fact that her mood instantly brightened when he had called her.
Had it been the Hellfire, she would have used her powers to sneak up to him even though Gambit´s empathy would usually give away her presence before she could jump on him. But this was no mutant only place and even though Shade did not deny her mutation in public, there was no sense in using her powers lightly in front of others. Times were not easy for mutants after all. Entering the place, she looked around. Gambit would usually not sit anywhere near the centre of attention and indeed she spotted him in a corner after having had a look around. Her lips curving into a wide smile, she walked over to the table and sneaked behind it, joining him on the bench. "Well, well, such a handsome guy sitting here all on his own?" she asked with a slight tease in her voice before leaning in a little to kiss him hello.

"Alors, can't be sho of dat, cheri," Gambit smirked, then kissed her firmly for a few seconds before leaning back. "Ya woudn' know if I had another invisible girlfriend here, non?"

"Couldn´t even blame you knowing how damn practical invisible girlfriends can be and what incredible skills they have." Shade replied, brazenly studying her fingernails for a brief moment. She gave him a sidewards look before brushing a hand through his hair in a half affectionate, half playful gesture. "I missed you, Thief." she said, meaning it, but her tone not sappy. They were sitting far enough away from the nearest person to catch the last word which of course could always be interpreted as some nickname.

"Dat an attempt t' make Remy feel guilty?" Gambit teased, not hiding his grin. He flicked the ash off his cigarette.

Shade made a thoughtful face, not completely able to hide a smirk. "Depends." she said, knowing that to him it would be clear she was kidding. "does it work?"

"Never," Gambit replied, knowing full well that most attempts people would make to make him feel guilty usually worked. However, he had not the slightest inclination to let Shade's thoughts drift that way at the moment. "Ya want anythin'?" he asked in the meantime, not wanting her to sit in front of an empty table.

Shade had seen him with a guilty conscience before and just for a moment the memory of almost a year ago flashed back into her mind, the guilt she had read in Gambit´s eyes just after they had escaped from that warehouse. It was just one of the funny connections her memory would make now and then, nothing significant in this situation right now, but it came to her in this moment nonetheless. However, she of course did not comment on that.
Considering his question she thought of her usual Coke first but then decided against it. "A hot chocolate would be great." she said leaning against the back of the bench casually. She was in a pretty relaxed and good mood right now. "So anything interesting been going on?" she asked. It was a question that wasn´t necessarily bound to get a decent answer but she didn´t mind right now.

"Lotsa t'ings," Gambit responded after he had nodded for the waitress to come over. "Depend on whether ya mean interestin' or interestin' interestin'." He was never too inclined to discuss his private matters, although Shade definitely had more privileges here than most other people, so he had a tendency to be playfully vague about those as long as possible.

"Interesting interesting is always more interesting than interesting." Shade said with half a smirk before ordering her chocolate and ignoring the waitresses slightly bewildered look. When the woman turned her back on them again she gave a shrug. "Whatever," she said indicating that she was more intent for anything interesting he might have to tell than for trying to get things from him he´d rather keep to himself. "Pretty much anything will be more interesting than the last weeks." There hadn´t been too much stuff going on at the mansion, just routine. She was strarting to feel she needed to get out again, somewhere. Have a little fun.

"Awright," Gambit accepted that. "I been on some family business an' on a commission in Europe," he said. "D'ya get any paper mail these days? Bills or anything of de kind?"

Europe, Shade thought. There were quite some pins on her mental globe of where-I-wanna-go-before-I-die pointing into that direction and she smiled at the thought. "Hm..." she said. "Credit card bill for some shopping that I did." she said. She had been out into the city a good week ago, partly because she had had the feeling she was running out of decent things to wear during the summer. She had never been girly, but did feel up for a little shopping once in a while. And then had been such a while.

"Den I got de right present for ya," Gambit nodded, satisfied. He placed a paper-wrapped envelope knife on the table in front of her. It was made in the shape of a decorated dagger, as if prepared for complex rituals rather than simple paper bills.

One of the many things Shade loved about Gambit was he remained somewhat mysterious even though they had been together for a long time now - which also showed in the fact that she could never tell what he would come up with next when he chose to surprise her with a present once in a while, and yet he always managed to come up with something she liked. Unwrapping the paper, her smile broadened. The dagger - and she instantly called it ´dagger´ in her mind instead of ´envelope knife´ - had a somewhat historical flair to it or at least that was what came to her mind. "This is almost too pretty to be used on envelopes," she said fascinatedly, letting her fingers trace the ornaments.

"Alors, I can't encourage ya t' use it on other people's throats since it ain't really designed for dat," Gambit said, "but you're free t' come up with other applications for it, sho."
He put out his cigarette in the ashtray and drank the rest of his coffee.
