"Briefly," Jack answered. "But I managed to fight them off without getting too badly hurt." He then looked over to Odin momentarily before back ahead again. "You?"

::A peculiar smile crossed Odin's lips at the question. He'd been trained as a scientist, before he'd begun his travels, and he'd never lost that curiosity. Nor those masochistic tendencies that took the form of utter disregard for his own safety. He'd tried to separate one from the herd, to see what could be done, although it hadn't gone as well as he'd hoped.:: "A couple of times, back when it wasn't epidemic."

"Right now I don't think either of us would last long walking the streets," muttered Jack as he looked out of the passenger window.

::Odin agreed with that whole-heartedly, which is why he had the car and didn't intend to leave it any time soon. He shook his head to himself, keeping his eyes on the road.:: "I knew the humans would find a way to ruin it."

Jack just sighed. "How is the city supposed to recover from this?" he said, watching the numerous streets pass by.

"It can't," ::Odin replied, glancing briefly at Jack, before he turned his full attention to the empty streets.:: "If, and that's a big if, they can destroy all the Hydra, the industry and culture here is ruined."

Jack's face became further grim at that, and he steadily kept his eyes ahead. "Do you have any set course in mind? The tank won't keep us going forever."

::Odin turned down the upcoming street, near the highway. It was easier to get to the other boroughs that way, quicker, less interference, fewer Hydra.:: "I've got an apartment in the Bronx...it's more of a death fortress now."

"If we get in, are we going to be able to get out again?" Jack wondered, eyes still roaming every inch of street for survivors.

"I manage to get out every morning," ::Odin replied, letting the speed drop down to normal. They were essentially alone; survivors tended to hide in their homes, and the people who sought refuge elsewhere had long left the city.::

"Alright," said Jack at that, believing him. Together their chance of survival was surely greater, which eased Jack's tension a little.

::The drive back to Odin's apartment was an easy one, with the nearly empty streets. Every once in a while, his sense was triggered by Hydra, and he'd speed, but then slow down once they were out of range.::

Each time Odin increased his speed, Jack knew the reasons why, and readied his weapon, just in case they needed to fight. Luckily, they reached Odin's apartment without any major battling, and once convinced the area was clear, Jack climbed out of the car.

::The apartment building was four stories, heavily barracaded. The other units had been abandoned weeks ago, and Odin had set to work raiding them for supplies. In his spare time, he'd built an electrified fence around the perimeter, to keep away unwanted guests in his sleep.
He slid from the driver's seat and closed the door behind him.:: "You can shoot from the windows, if it'll make you feel safer."
