Her look contained resignation mixed with annoyance. Hypothetical situations about her powers were a dime a dozen. "I might be happy about it, if I ever actually believed that would happen again."

::Odin knew from prior experience that "might" was a loaded word. However, coupled with her other phrasing and the look she gave him, he surmised that in this situation, it meant "I'd like it, but I think you're putting me on." Not that he could fault her for that. He was far more trusting of other mutants, and far less trusting of humans that it balanced, but it also left him more open than most allowed themselves to be, in this sort of scenario.::
"Not that it's my business what happened last time," ::He began, calling only minor attention to her use of "again" before moving on.:: "But, is it something you'd be interested in, if it weren't hypothetical?"

"Why are you so curious about it?" she answered his question with a question of her own. "It's not damn likely, hypothetical or no."

"It's likelier than you think," ::Odin replied, the quick half-concession to the question always bought more time against that nagging compulsion for honesty. It was a hindrance to his work, and for the thousandth time he vowed to do something about it...later. His gaze settled on her eyes as he continued.:: "I'm interested because I sympathize, and I'm sure I can do something about it."

She snorted in derision. "What, New Humanity decide to make a showing in New York now? You sound like one of them." Olsson's "gift" had made her like this in the first place and this was starting to sound familiar.

::Odin had seen the news reports, as well, and as soon as he placed the name, he shook his head. It was a refined gesture, something he had learned to not call attention to a negation, but to make it known regardless.:: "I'm not affiliated, so if they're in New York, I'd be the last to know."

"So, what then? Peddling the Cure? Telepathic manipulation? It's got to be something." Her eyebrow was raised, the look on her face matching her tone. "What makes you so sure of yourself?"

::Odin's expression grew far more serious at the mere mention of the Cure. That drug had done more to damage the mutant community than all of the Senator Kellys of Congress combined. As for the other suggestions...:: "I'd rather die than peddle the Cure. I've already told you I'm not a telepath, and to answer your question, I can see it, I can isolate it, and I know myself well enough to have self-confidence."

She almost opened her mouth in another retort, but he seemed adamant about what he was saying. She took a breath, still unconvinced, but attempting to lose the defensiveness. "You have to know that sounds a little....too good to be true."

::Odin conceded that with a nod. He could imagine what offers she had received, or what avenues she had sought previously, to cope with that ability of hers. None of them had worked, as was evident.:: "I'm sure it does. All I can do is assure you that I couldn't lie about this if I wanted to."

"Why not?" she asked, unconvinced he'd answer directly or even at all, but she tired of verbal dancing very quickly.

::There was a minor pause as Odin struggled for the time to phrase an answer; he'd never been asked that directly before. A few seconds was all he was granted before the compulsion became too intense. This had been an unforeseen price to pay.:: "I'm incapable of lying. I know how that sounds, and I ask that if you decide to test the waters of that, realize that answers can get unpleasant for both of us."

She sat back, blinking in surprise for a moment, then taking a breath. She was too suspicious to believe him outright, but decided that any "test" she'd try would be of the less painful sort, or not at all. "Why offer your services to me?" she asked, out of genuine curiosity.

::That was a particularly easy question for Odin to answer, and there was a sense of gratitude for taking an easy route, when something far worse could have been asked.:: "I think that mutants need to help each other, because nobody else will. And I'm in a better position to do it than most people. I also take it that you're from Xavier's, and I know some people there."

"Who?" she asked, finishing her drink and concentrating more on his answer to avoid ordering another.
