"Your feelings are your own," ::Pietro replied. They had called truce; that was enough. If she wanted to be offended beyond that, he would do nothing to either fan the flames or extinguish them.::

Shade had to stiffle the urge to roll her eyes. She had no idea how Pietro had understood her words, but obviously in the wrong way. She had meant it in a slightly humourous way because she was starting to grow tired of his uptightness and had tried to lighten up the stiffness of their conversation. The background of her words was serious of course, but she had not meant it in a bad way.
"I know." she said, raising an eyebrow once more fighting down slight annoyance. "I just meant to be a little more friendly with that remark. Seems that message didn´t get across."

"I don't have much of a sense of humor," ::Pietro said, meant as an explanation and almost an apology for misunderstanding the intention behind her words. His expression did not shift, did not become tenser or more easy-going. This was as relaxed as he could get when not in the presence of one of his loved ones.::

Obviously, Shade thought. She wondered if she had ever met someone with that little sense for humour. How could she judge anyways, maybe he was different from that but his uptightness almost emanated from him in a way far too pronounced to be just some sort of put up behaviour in the presence of someone he was wary of.
She scowled a little, turning her head to look at him. It was no scowl of irritation, rather a questioning one. "You never just laugh at some totally stupid joke?" she asked, sounding almost incredulous.

::Pietro shook his head slightly. He had no patience for jokes; they were almost always too long for him to want to listen to. And generally the humor was so inane he felt like slapping the person who decided it was humorous to begin with.:: "Never."

Her second eyebrow joined the first as Shade tilted her head slightly, somewhat more bewildered than her expression showed. "What about...crazy moments where you just laugh for no reason?" she asked.

::Pietro shook his head one more. Was it so difficult to comprehend that he had no reason to laugh?:: "I do not have those."

Shade leant her head against the tree, becoming somewhat more serious again. "You should have." she said. "It´s those moments that make life good." There was no reproach in her words, it was just a little insight into her own optimistic nature - and into her own kind of humour that, admittedly, could take on odd shapes at times but which allowed her to be joyful at small reasons.

::Her comment was initially met with silence. It was difficult for Pietro to speak of such matters with neither condensation nor speed, and he had to curb his own instincts. She had not said it to rile him, and for his own part he realized it and would not allow himself to be riled. Finally, he spoke, his voice not as defensive as he might otherwise be.:: "We survive in our own ways."

Shade nodded. "Yeah." she said. "I think we do." They were so different that it almost seemed to her to be talking to someone who was talking a different language. There seemed to be no common ground, hardly anything to establish some conversation which was usually an easy going thing for her to do. Every little attempt to lighten up the mood was met by him with more gloomyless and slight outlooks on a life which had no laughing moments at all. Shade could not imagine to lead such a life. She had gotten a taste of confusion and despair about half a year back. Imagining something like this permanently simply didn´t sound like a copeable option. She knew she would not be strong enough to lead that sort of life.

::Pietro knew the expresson she gave him; it might be unintentional on her part, but he recognized it all the same. That look of pecularity and not quite sympathy, usually accompanied by a "You poor b*st*rd." He did not envy himself for what had made him the man he was, yet he lived his life as he was. He preferred to be aware and cynical to being foolish. It was time for a change of subject.:: "You get on with the other staff?"

Shade noticed the abrupt change of topic but was okay with it. She nodded. Truth be told, she did not see the rest of staff too much. They were X Men, she wasn´t. Most of them were around Pietro´s age and none of them was taking classes themselves whereas she had done so during the last semester thus the friends she had made were more among the students than among the teachers. But whenever she saw one of them they got along nicely. She remembered the last few times she had met some of them. Logan at that teacher´s meeting - he was always nice to chat with. Scott was a little uptied the few times they had exchanged words. She barely knew Storm and the last time she had met Jean had been in the boathouse, resulting in a slightly awkward situation. But all in all...
"I do, yes." she said. "I wouldn´t say I´m too close with them, there were others here when I arrived I´m now closer with but... they´re a nice group of people."

"They are," ::Pietro agreed with a slight nod. He had grown with many of the others, such as Scott, Jean, and Ororo, and he thought the world of them. The Doctor was new, but Pietro found him pleasant and was glad that they had another sane mutant with good intentions on grounds.::

As usual, there was little she could tell from his words, but the fact that he was staying at the mansion for such a long time and, doing security with such a grim determination, made her wonder. That and the fact that him and quite some of the staff were around the same age. "You know them well?" she therefore asked.

::This was only their third encounter, the fact that it took place some six months after their first one was a result of how little they cared for one another's company. However, the secret of Pietro's origins had been out the minute Wanda's temper had flared. The staff knew, the students he spoke with knew now. He was not an X-Man, but he had gone out on the last mission; this had once been his home.:: "I was a student here."
