::Pietro saw no purpose in pointing out that there was no reason for anyone to speak with him. She knew his opinion on the matter, and if she was blind enough to seek him out regardless, there was nothing he could do to persuade her otherwise. His tone was flat, a result of the topic rather than the company.:: "He will be here."

Glancing at him, Shade could clearly tell that Pietro did not approve of her words. She knew nothing about the young man´s relationship to his father but what she had gathered of his bitterness spoke a lot. She did not feel like digging into that. Nor did she feel like justifying her purposes in front of him. She had to talk to Magneto sooner or later. To finish it. To come to peace with herself in that matter. To speak herself free from his influence. She needed that and she noticed that Pietro was mistrusting her for that reason. And for the reason she was friends with Rogue, but little as she felt like justifying herself, she did not like to be put in a worse light than she deserved. "I don´t want you to associate myself with him, Pietro." she said, looking at him. "I guess it´s what you do in a way. I don´t want that. What you think of me is your business, but I don´t want to be seen as a cohort that I am not."

::She was correct; Pietro did associate her that way. It was only natural, considering the company she kept, or had kept when they first met. On one level, he would like to believe her. Their truce would be easier that way; he could even possibly grow to like her as a person one day. More than that, the mansion would be safer with one less person to fear. However, he did not trust easily, and Magneto had him on edge.:: "For your sake, then, stay away from him."

Shade wondered how his words were meant. As a warning most clearly but as a warning meant to benefit her or as a warning to stay away in order not to earn further mistrust. "I will." she said, not averting her gaze from Pietro. "as soon as I had my little chat with him." She plucked off a blade of grass and twirled it between her fingers. Pietro most likely would not understand and think of her as stubborn or foolish, but she didn´t care.

::If she had her heart set on speaking with that madman, Pietro did not see how he could talk her out of it, or how it was his worry. He tried to do her a favor, telling her to stay away from him. If she would not listen, then she would have to deal with the consequences of setting Magneto off.:: "Do not way I did not warn you."

"I won´t." Shade replied, looking down at her blade of grass. Whatever had happened, maybe Pietro had a good reason to warn her, but she had waited for months. Her mind was set, her side was chosen even though she had never considered becoming an X Man, but even though it was not doubt nor uncertainty remaining, she needed to put a full stop as Gambit would have called it.
" Can you understand that sometimes we do things we know we maybe shouldn´t?" she asked, looking up again. "Because that´s the only way for ourselves to deal with it?" She would not give him the background of her thinking there, it dug far too deep, it was the story of the last year starting with her own despair and anger that had made her so naive and easy to influence.

::Pietro understood that on one level, athough not to this magnitude. He frequently did things which compromised his own health because he felt he could not do otherwise. So he often did not do what he should, although he knew better. He drew a line, however, when it came to serious matters, but he had learned long ago that not everyone was as rigid as he was. He nodded once, crossing his arms over his chest. The pose was not meant to intimidate; he simply could not remain even slightly relaxed in a conversation about Magneto.::

The nod was more of an agreement than she would have expected. The Pietro she had met on the grounds a few weeks back might have given her either a brief and snappish or a lengthy explanation laden with strange comparisons on how that attitude should not be applied to what, but now the young man seemed much more tense although he did not show open hostility towards her. "Good." she said, nodding and leant her head back against the tree.
Taking a deep relaxed breath she could feel her surprise and slight anxiety which had been evoked with the news of Magneto´s return retreat to a large extent. Nothing worth ruining your mood over, Shadey, she thought. "I´m sorry this is a bad topic." she said after a moment, no submissive apology in her voice, it was rather a statement that expressed the honesty of her words without backing down. "There are so much nicer things to think about than that."

"No, there aren't," ::Pietro replied sourly It was not meant as a hostile contradiction, rather it reflected the hopelessness he had felt for these past few weeks. Everything around them was falling apart; danger waited at every turn. There were battles everywhere; death taking the lives of children, corrupting the innocence of others. Emily, Kyra, Typhoid...before it was said and done, they would all be as tainted as he was.
And how he was tainted...he had never wanted to take a life in all his years, but he had been there while others had been taken. And he began to regret not acting. It would have been easy to stop Magneto once and for all, but he could not, not even those months ago when he had been consumed with his rage and a thirst for revenge. Such pain would have been spared if he had. And if he had been faster at the bank, he could have saved that girl, could have stopped Ororo from being injured. He imagined how that woman's neck would feel beneath his hands as he choked the life from her. What was he becoming? What had he already become?
He felt unsteady and sat then, resting his arms over his legs. That wave of regret would pass. After all, what was his soul in exchange for the safety of everyone here? Those villains needed to be stopped.::

His words sounded bitter, Shade noticed and taking in his features once more, she realised how battered and hopeless he looked. Despite the fact that she did not really like him Shade felt a sudden need to help, only she did not know how. Noone should have to think that way, feel such hopelessness. It contradicted her optimistic attitude and although Shade did not know anything of his background or what had made him think like this, she thought that there just had to be something that did not look as bad.
"If there aren´t now, then there will be." she said, her head still leant against the tree, watching him with her head slightly tilted to the sight, her expression slightly thoughtful. "I can´t imagine that there is nothing, not a single positive thought in you."

::Pietro turned his head to look at her, to truly look at her as she uttered those words. That mindset of optimism had never been one he understood, and he watched her now with a sense of disbelief. Uncle was throwing his life away, his sister was in danger, Kyra and Emily appeared listless, as though life had been drained from them, and Rossignol, his beautiful Rossignol...Mary wanted to suck away her soul. That was the individual level, did not count what he had been told by Scott and Uncle, about those humans who wanted to wipe them off the face of the planet for their heritage. The world closed in around them.
His next words were free of judgment, as he came to what he felt was an important conclusion dealing with this woman. There was no sarcasm, no criticism, simply a question.:: "You do not know what we are up against, do you?"

Shade had meant to cheer him up, not in a naively cheerful way, but just because it was her normal reaction towards people who were having a hard time: if someone feels bad, try to help. His reply to that showed her attempts were fruitless. It also showed that he knew a whole lot more than herself.
"I´m not an X Man." she replied. "I was here when the attacks happened, but I´m a useless fighter." She was sure Pietro was involved with the X Men´s plans and information therefore what she said next she was sure was neither new for him nor would she leak out any information not meant for his ears. "and I know about Sentinels because Gambit ran a simulation with me in the Danger Room." She had no idea whether Pietro knew Gambit, but didn´t notice that. It didn´t matter anyways and she had never made a secret of her relationship with him, although gossip had always annoyed her. Her eyes were on Pietro, her voice was firm but not accusing. He should know she was not as stupidly careless as he might think she was. "It scared the crap out of me. But still... if I just kept thinking of that fear all the time, I would be having nightmares every night."

::Pietro shook his head slightly at her comment that she was a useless fighter. The same had been said about him; after all, running was seen as defensive. He had spent his lifetime proving he could fight. If she put her mind to it, she could train that invisibility trick of hers into something for stealth missions, but was not his concern. Not everyone had the fighting spirit, although he believed that one could find it when put in a life or death situation.
The fact was, he had nightmares each time he closed his eyes. Magneto had that effect on him. A thousand fears and memories were rediscovered each time he cosed his eyes. For a month, it had been this way, and he had already forgotten what he dreamed off before the nightmares returned. He rationalized it; he prefered to be on guard than caught unaware.
So she had the wherewithall to be concerned about her safety after all. It was a start. He folded his hands over his kneecaps, shifting his position. If he sat too tightly, it irritated the dressing further. Magneto and the sentinels were one and the same, and he so hated being in the middle. His eyes momentarily distant, as he thought that over.:: "The nightmares are justified. We are fighting two wars of survival."

He saw things a lot more grim that Shade herself did. Maybe he was justified to think so. He was more involved and although she guessed his age to be around 30 there was something in his eyes that made him look older. In a bad way. She shortly scowled at the mention of "two wars" Magneto, most likely. She did no longer see him through her naive glassesm but she doubted Magneto was a danger to her life, or to mutants in the way Wideawake was. She didn´t comment on that.
"Maybe they are." she said. "but that won´t make me lose my hopes. Or make me not have fun about good things. What about hope there, Pietro?"

::Hope, she sounded like Uncle with that word. Hope had its place in the minds of those more predisposed to happiness than Pietro himself was. He did not fight for hope; he fought for honor, devotion, and sometimes out of spite. His eyes focused again, and his expression became grim.:: "Ask me again when this is over."
