Shade smiled at that reply and flinched at the poke, being ticklish. "How evil of you." she snickered, leaning over Gambit to kiss him gently. "...poking the birthday girl."

"Oops," Gambit chuckled, "alors, guess I gotta make it up to 'er," he stood up and walked to his horse, getting a bag that was fastened to the saddle. He returned and dropped to the grass again.

Shade followed him with her eyes, rolling back onto her back again propping up on her elbows. She had no idea what he had in that bag and therefore eyed him curiously. "As in starting to make up for it right now?" she asked.

He got two small gift-wrapped packages out of the bag and gave them to Shade.

Shade meant to reply something to that comment but forgot about it, letting out a small squeal of excitement at the sights of the packages, beaming like a kid on Christmas. Unwrapping the first package, she found a string of pearls inside - real pearls. Admiringly, she let her fingers touch them, then took them out. "Wow." she said, looking at him with shining eyes. "These are beautiful. I never had real pearls."

Shade flashed him a happy grin. She hadn´t forgotten about that either. "And I´m so looking forward to that already." she said, giving him a kiss on the lips.

Gambit beamed. He hadn't given anybody birthday presents for a long time already, so he was nearly as excited as she was. And he was also glad she chose the pearls to open first because that meant the second gift would be much more fun.

Shade had always liked that expression on his face when he grinned like a schoolboy. She pulled back again and put the pearls around her neck which of course totally mismatched her jeans and casual shirt she had chosen for riding, but she couldn´t help but try them on, fiddling with the clasp for a moment, then straightened. "So how do I look?" she asked.
