Kyra sat outside, lying in the sun and soaking up its rays. It was a beautiful day, and she was enjoying it. Even if what had happened with Pietro the other day had really scared her. He'd had the look people got when they were going to hit her.
The Professor's talk with her the day before had been encouraging, so she was trying her best to get used to this place and the people in it. With a sigh, she lazily scratched a spot on her cheek, eyes closed.

::Pietro ran through the grounds, on his afternoon security sweep. All was secure, thankfully, they would live uninterrupted another day. As he had been about to run into the mansion, he saw Kyra, the girl from the other day's incident lying under a tree.
The incident had preyed upon his mind, as well it should have. He had brought an innocent young woman to tears, because of his own paranoia. He had vowed to make it right, and he would. Slowng to what was a normal pace for others, he ran over to the tree.:: "May we talk?"
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:12pm
Her eyes shot open as she heard a familiar voice; Pietro's. He was standing next to her, asking to talk. She should just refuse; refuse to try to listen to what he said, period.
"Alright," she said quietly, sitting up so that she leaned against the trunk of the large tree.

::Pietro kept his distance, standing two feet back from her. The thing he wanted to do was invade her personal space, after frightening her the other day.:: "My behavior was inexcusible."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:28pm
"What made you think I was someone else?" She asked, frowning. They'd been having a nice conversation up until that point; if she'd looked like someone, he'd have treated her like that from the start, wouldn't he?
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 8:31pm
"Your eyes turned yellow," ::Pietro replied. She deserved an honest explanation for his behavior. The blue shapeshifter had yellow eyes, and liked to play games; his suspicion were well-founded, but incorrect.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:35pm
"They do that sometimes, along with these," she said, pointing to her cheek. Solid black stripes creeped up her neck, spreading across her cheek. In an instant, they'd sunk beneath her skin once more. "If I thought it was bad I'd have warned you," she said. "But why are they bad, exactly?"
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 8:38pm
"The person I thought you were has yellow eyes," ::Pietro replied. There was nothing wrong with them, in theory, just as there was nothing wrong with blue skin or red hair. The shapeshifter had ruined those attributes as well, corrupting them and making him paranoid.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:41pm
She paused, thinking a moment. Out of all the people she'd met, who else had yellow eyes? "You mean G-Mystique?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 8:43pm
::Pietro's hands unconsciously curled into balls at his sides. Her very name, spoken aloud, could undo what calm he developed. With a slight nod, he replied.:: "Yes."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:46pm
"What's your beef with her?" she asked, curious. His face got stony just at the mentioning of the woman's name. What had happened between the two of them?
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 8:55pm
::Pietro stood there, trying to decipher her tone. Did she sympathize with the shapeshifter, or was it mere curiosity? Curiosity was understandable, considering his anger. But another person blinded by the shapeshifter's lies? He and Wanda might have their work ahead of them.
How to answer the question? He had hated it when he was younger, and Uncle and Magneto had said it was an adult matter. As he'd grown older, he began to see the wisdom in that. Yet, honesty and bluntness were his two best traits, after loyalty.:: "I don't trust her."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 8:58pm
"Why, if you don't mind my asking?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly. Was it because of how she looked? Kyra had been distrustful of her at first, when she'd discovered that the woman who'd brought her back to her apartment had been wearing a disguise, and looked like some kind of blue snake woman.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 9:03pm
::Pietro had already explained this far; he may as well give the young woman context. Uncle might be upset later, but he had support from Wanda and Ororo on this matter.:: "She's a murderer, a terrorist, and a spy."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 9:14pm
"Oh," she said, eyes widening. She hadn't known that about Mystique. Mystique had told her that she had formerly been involved in some bad stuff, and Kyra had just thought it was drugs and left it at that. But a terrorist?
"She doesn't seem like a terrorist to me," she remarked lightly. "I mean, I stayed with her for over two months in her apartment, more than six months ago. She seemed fine to me."
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 9:18pm
::Six months ago...that was during the immediate aftermath of Magneto's war at Alcatraz. Magneto had probably been here, and the shapeshifter unable to visit him. That did nothing to alleviate Pietro's concerns. Instead, he spoke, his tone forced flat.:: "Nor does an old man seem like a threat, or teenagers seem like mutants. They learn to hide, and she hides better than the rest of us."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 9:22pm
He probably meant her ability to shapeshift into other people. Sometimes, Kyra wished she could have an ability like that, even if it meant having blue skin and scales.
"Sometimes I wish I could hide as good as she can," she said quietly.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 9:51pm
"You shouldn't be ashamed of who you are," ::Pietro said. He had little experience comforting people who weren't his sister. But he meant this, that there should be no shame in who she was. From what he had seen, she was a sweet, engaging young woman.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 9:54pm
She shrugged. Finding no better example, she focused, causing her eyes to flash yellow, the stripes to return, and her nose lengthening into a feline snout. "It's hard to be proud when you can turn into a monster," she said, her voice hoarse from the change put on it.
She had to concentrate, or she would lose herself in the change. Squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, she focused on looking like her normal, human self.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 10:01pm
::Pietro shook his head, his voice growing stern. This was a lesson he had learned with great difficulty, and he wanted no one else to suffer as he and Wanda had, as the others he had met had.: "The only monsters are those with darkness in their hearts."
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 10:06pm
"Define 'darkness' for me a little better," she said, raising an eyebrow.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 10:11pm
"Sadists, murderers, and abusive parents," ::Pietro could not help but add the last to the list. That was the cause of all his problems, after all.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 10:21pm
She'd met quite a few people who fit in one, if not more, of those categories. "Well, at least I don't fit into any of those categories."
He'd said that Mystique was a murderer, so did he think of her as a monster? The woman probably got that a lot, with the whole 'blue skinned' thing. But was she really a monster? She'd only known her for awhile. And then, she had been going through the process of getting over the Cure. So she'd certainly seen her as a monster then, with patches of blue showing up on her every morning.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 10:24pm
"No, and you aren't a monster," ::Pietro added, his voice firmer. She might fear him, or dislike him because of that incident. But he wouldn't allow a child to hate herself in his presence. He wasn't his father, and he never would be.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 10:35pm
She looked up at him. He was a good two feet away, mindful of her feelings from the last time he'd been closer to her. He was apologizing, and he was insisting that she wasn't a monster. That was more than a lot of people had done for her.
"Thank you, Pietro," she said, giving him a small smile.
Posted by Pietro Maximoff on May 29, 2007, 10:47pm
"You're welcome," ::Pietro replied, with a slight nod of his head. If she took his words to heart, that would be an accomplishment.::
Posted by Strype on May 29, 2007, 11:01pm
Putting her shoes back on, she stood up. "Well, I'm going back inside. But...I guess I'll see you around," she said, smiling softly.
