Vivian hurried out onto the grounds, looking around nervously if anyone was following. Satisfied that no one was watching, she nearly ran into the woods. She had to get out. Had to get away. I have to deal with this myself, she thought. She couldn't see it, but felt the changes, her face and hands and body going through rapid changes, all at once. She thought that if she was at a place like this, it would be better. She wouldn't get out of control.
She nearly screamed when her arm caught fire of it's own accord. "Oh, god," she said quietly, hyperventilating. She needed to wait this out, to concentrate.

::The Professor had been in the woods, on his own version of camping. It lost something in trranslation when done with a wheelchair; he didn't have much of a choise, though. Seeing a flame spark up through the trees, he wheeled over to see what it was. His first thought was that it was Phoebe or John::: "Phoebe?" " ::he called to her.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 9:26pm
She whirled around, seeing someone in the trees. "Stay away from me," she nearly yelled, clutching her arm. The fire was spreading up her arm. Rapidly. She felt her hair become longer, and knew she was morphing into different people at once. She became Alice, her friend at school, then became a mix between her and Phoebe. Then her own white-blond hair came back. Why wouldn't it stop?
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 9:28pm
::Her voice sounded more like Vivian. And the rapid shifts he was seeing from the corner of his eye certainly was in accordance with her powers. Xavier wheeled closer; the desparation in her voice told him he needed to help.:: "Vivian, what's wrong?"
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 9:33pm
There were so many voices in her head, she couldn't concentrate. Couldn't stop it. "Stay away from me," she whimpered. "I don't want to hurt you." Her entire torso was on fire. It was spreading upwards, and her legs were now invisible.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 9:34pm
"You won't hurt me," ::The Professor called back to her as he continued to approach. The whimper concerned him; she must be in terrible trouble.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 9:39pm
She sank to her knees, clutching her flaming head. It wouldn't stop. It wouldn't go away. It hurt. She screamed.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 9:44pm
::The Professor arrived by her side just as she began screaming. His brow creased in concern and he moved closer. Her upper body was on fire and her lower body was invisible; she must have absorbed Shade and Phoebe's powers. He continued to move closer, projecting an aura of calm.:: "It'll be all right. Let me help."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 9:51pm
She felt something soothing, almost stroking her mind. Her screams died, but she continued to kneel on the ground, hyperventilating. "Help me," she whimpered, threadlike jets of steam coming from her tearducts.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 9:54pm
"I will," ::The Professor replied in a gentle voice. He stopped his chair a few feet from where she knelt. Concentrating, he reached out with his mind.:: *Slow your breathing, Vivian. Calm yourself. I know it sounds difficult.*
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 10:01pm
Vivian heard his voice in her mind, louder than the rest that were clamoring for attention. Swallowing back a sob, she forced herself to take slower, deeper breaths. But her mind continued to race. Why did this always happen to her? What was wrong with her? She was going to hurt someone again.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 10:03pm
*Don't doubt yourself,* ::The Professor sent to her silently. If she did, she would never calm down.:: *Focus only on your breathing.*
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 10:07pm
Biting the inside of her cheek, she forced herself to stop. Breathing in...and out. Her breathing slowed as she forced her mind to be blank. She couldn't think about the fire that was consuming half her body.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 10:20pm
::Xavier watched carefully as she began to relax. Her breathing steadied; her body began to calm. He sensed the panic in her mind begin to evaporate. That was a good first step. Nobody could control their powers when they were so upset.:: *Very good, now picture yourself in your mind. How you always are.*
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 10:31pm
Her heart nearly skipped a beat. Did he know-? How? She'd only shown it once, and not to him. The she she always was scared her. It was something she desperately didn't want to be. It was why she hid behind what she used to look like. She bit her lip, and concentrated, ignoring the voices, the flames. What she normally looked like. Ironic, as it was anything but.
Her skin became light blue, with her lips and nails darker. Her hair got longer and looked nearly snow white. Blue ears came to an elfin point, and her eyes darkened until they became black, with red irises, and no discernable pupils. As she changed the flames shrank, dying down until only her hands remained on fire, which she held out away from her. Seeing her skin blue again, she cringed.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 10:38pm
::The Professor was somewhat surprised by her appearance; he hadn't been aware that the form she had shown him hadn't been hers. Then again, it probably had, just like the form Raven used was her before her powers manifested. He would teach her to have pride in who she was. But that would come later.
He kept his mental voice gentle, encouraged by how the flames slowly began to disappear.:: *Excellent, Vivian, but don't cringe. Focus only on your body being as it should be.*
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 10:47pm
She nodded slowly, blinking back tears. Biting her lip harder, she focused. Her features became more defined, her jaw becoming slightly more angular, her nose a little smaller, until she had become exactly what she remembered. She hated it, but realized that the fire was gone except for two small puddles of flame in her hands. Her legs weren't invisible anymore, and were slowly coming back into view. Breathe in, and out...
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 10:53pm
::Xavier knew this was affecting her deeply. Physical mutations were always the hardest to deal with. He smiled at her, his mental tone encouraging.:: *Excellent, Vivian. Just like that. In and out.*
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:07pm
She closed her eyes, breathing steadily in and out. Eventually everything faded out, the fire and the invisibility. "It's never been so out of control," she said softly, wiping her lip. She'd accidentally punctured the flesh.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:09pm
::Seeing the drop of blood on her lip, the Professor reached into his pocket and removed his handkerchief. He handed it to her, sympathy in his eyes.:: "It happens to the best of us, Vivian."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:17pm
She accepted the handkerchief, reluctantly. She hesitatingly put the clean white cloth to her bleeding lip. "I doubt something like me happens," she said softly.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:18pm
"Whatever do you mean by that?" ::The Professor asked gently, tilting his head to the side.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:24pm
"I don't think you see things like me everyday," she said, her eyes clouding over slightly with anger and bitterness, none of it directed towards the Professor.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:26pm
"You're not a thing," ::The Professor replied firmly. It was terirble that she thought that way of herself. She was a lovely young woman. If only she could see that.:: "You're a lovely girl. And as a matter of fact, I know another blue shapeshifter." ::The irony struck him a second later, that although he meant know as in was familiar with, the biblical definition fit just as well.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:34pm
"Yes I am," she snapped. "I'm a monster and a demon." She ignored his other comment about another shapeshifter. She wasn't put on this earth for any purpose except to corrupt and decieve.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:36pm
"You're neither," ::Xavier replied gently, with a shake of his head. It pained him to know that she thought so little of herself.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:37pm
"Then what am I?" She asked angrily, clenching a fist around the handkerchief. Even she didn't know.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:39pm
"You're a teenage girl who happens to be a mutant," ::The Professor replied gently. He reached out a hand to her, to help her to her feet.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:42pm
She took his hand, getting up. "I'm not so sure anymore," she said quietly.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:42pm
::Xavier once more tilted his head to the side.:: "Why do you say that?"
Posted by Copycat on Mar 17, 2007, 11:50pm
She sighed, wiping off her jeans. "I was brought up to believe in white and black, good and evil. Anything out of the ordinary was the devil. And after I got kicked out, I believed it, and lived like it."
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:52pm
"Fortunately, the world isn't merely black and white," ::The Professor said gently. Not only were there shades of gray, but people themselves represented a world of color.::

"I've been living in sin for too long not to keep believing it," she said quietly.
Posted by The Man on Mar 17, 2007, 11:56pm
"Sin is relative," ::The Professor replied. It had taken him a long time to break from the religious teachings he'd bene bred to believe. But living with Erik Lehnsherr and running a school for mutant children had that effect. He still believed in sin, and felt his acutely. But he was much more forgiving of others than himself.::

"Is it?" She asked, her voice very thinly masking her morose mood.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:00am
"I believe it is," ::The Professor replied. He detected her mood and having been there many times before, understood it.:: "I believe in redemption above all."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 12:06am
She tried to smile at his optimism and attempt to make her feel better. "I wish I did." Her smile never reached her eyes, and faded quickly.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:07am
"If you spend enough time here, I believe you will," ::Xavier replied. He wished that he could say something more to help lift her immediate spirit. However, he understood the difficulty of coming to terms with one's own past.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 12:13am
She sighed. "So now what do I do? It'll come back, and it always gets worse."
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:25am
"You learn to control, slowly but surely," ::Xavier replied. He knew that control was difficult, but it was necessary.:: "And then one day, it won't come back unless you call for it."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 12:31am
"I find that really hard to believe," she admitted. To call for it? She knew it was possible for other people, but it brought her back to the same idea of how different she was from everyone else.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:37am
"It will never happen if you don't believe," ::The Professor replied. Self-fulfilling prophesy was a problem to overcome when it came to powers. But he believed that all powers could be controlled with enough practice.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 12:40am
She sighed. "I'll try. But what do I do?" She had no idea about the first step to controlling her powers.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:43am
"The first step is to figure out why exactly you have so much trouble with it," ::Xavier replied. At the moment, he was very much a teacher.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 12:55am
"And I have no idea," she confessed, a little frustrated.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 12:59am
"When did your powers first manifest?" ::The Professor asked gently.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 1:04am
"Around two years ago, I think," she said, frowning in thought. "I was fifteen." And boy, had she been terrified.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 1:06am
"I don't want to pry," ::The Professor began, knowing that this was most likely a touchy subject. However, to help her, he needed details.:: "But do you mind explaining what had happened?"
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 1:14am
She sighed, and plopped back down on the grass in front of him. "Well, I actually found out my friend was cryokinetic. She was my best friend in the world. I was scared for her, and that my parents wouldn't let us be friends anymore. The next morning, after all that worrying, I started to turn blue." She'd worn gloves on her hands, complaining of a rash, but it got worse as she worried more.
Posted by The Man on Mar 18, 2007, 1:21am
"I see," ::The Professor replied, listening attentively. It wasn't the first case of a sympathetic manifestation. It was rare, but considering the nature of her powers, it made sense.:: "And your abiltity to transform?"
Posted by Copycat on Mar 18, 2007, 1:24am
"I wanted to hide it too bad," she confessed. It had started to get up past the collar, where people would see it. "I wanted it to go away, and...I just did. But when I went to sleep, it just came back, more and more." She pointed to her ears, then her hair and eyes. "These came later than the skin."
Posted by The Man on Mar 19, 2007, 12:07am
::The Professor nodded as he listened. It sounded as though she had some control; it was merely linked to her emotional states.:: "I see."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 19, 2007, 12:13am
"Then, the voices came, and it all started spiraling out of control," she confessed.
Posted by The Man on Mar 19, 2007, 12:29am
"You mean your telepathy developed?" ::The Professor asked gently.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 19, 2007, 12:36am
She nodded. "I started hearing it all, no matter what I tried to do to ignore it. I heard what everyone thought about me, all the time. And then one day in class I freaked out because it got so overwhelming. I copied my friend and lost control of the ice, but not before everyone saw what I really looked like. It got me kicked out of school, and my house." She looked down at her hands sadly.
Posted by The Man on Mar 19, 2007, 12:38am
"You won't be kicked out of here," ::The Professor replied gently. He would help her in any way that he could. Telepathy was his area of expertise, after all. And from her explanation, if she gained control of her emotions, she would control her powers.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 19, 2007, 12:43am
"Even if I lose control again?" She looked up, her eyes sad. Her favorite teacher had been the one to take her to the office, assuring her the same thing.
Posted by The Man on Mar 19, 2007, 12:46am
"Even if you lose control again," ::The Professor reassured. That was why the school existed. And she was far from the first to lose control. Strype, Morph, Typhoid, Phoebe, John...it was always a battle for control. He would simply work harder to teach it to her.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 19, 2007, 12:56am
She sighed and nodded, hugging her knees to her chest.

::The Professor watched how she minimized herself, rather than trying to move.:: "You don't want to stay out here all night, do you?"
Posted by Copycat on Mar 20, 2007, 8:29am
"I guess not," she said quietly. She stood up, wiping grass off her behind.
Posted by The Man on Mar 21, 2007, 12:46pm
::Xavier gave her an encouraging look. She was so upset; he would do what he could to ease her fears.:: "Would you like some hot chocolate? We could talk, too, if you wished."
Posted by Copycat on Mar 21, 2007, 9:13pm
"Um, yes please," she said, after a moment. She hadnothing better to do with her time, and she felt that it would be beneficial to at least chat with the Professor. He was so nice and understanding...and she was really grateful for his help. It would have taken forever to get things under control, since usually it stopped when she was exhausted.
Posted by The Man on Mar 23, 2007, 10:19am
"We'll go to the kitchen," ::Xavier said gently. Hot chocolate would be an excellent way for her to get comfortable and talk. It was obvious she had been holding in some complex thoughts and he would stay up all night, if necessary, to help her sort through them.::
Posted by Copycat on Mar 24, 2007, 10:53am
"Okay," she said, nodding. Once more she wiped any remnants of grass from her jeans, and followed the Professor towards the kitchen.

"You learn to control, slowly but surely," ::Xavier replied. He knew that control was difficult, but it was necessary.:: "And then one day, it won't come back unless you call for it."

"I find that really hard to believe," she admitted. To call for it? She knew it was possible for other people, but it brought her back to the same idea of how different she was from everyone else.

"It will never happen if you don't believe," ::The Professor replied. Self-fulfilling prophesy was a problem to overcome when it came to powers. But he believed that all powers could be controlled with enough practice.::

She sighed.

"Even if I lose control again?" She looked up, her eyes sad. Her favorite teacher had been the one to take her to the office, assuring her the same thing.
Posted by The Man on Mar 19, 2007, 12:46am
"Even if you lose control again," ::The Professor reassured. That was why the school existed. And she was far from the first to lose control. Strype, Morph, Typhoid, Phoebe, John...it was always a battle for control. He would simply work harder to teach it to her.::

"Okay," she said, nodding. Once more she wiped any remnants of grass from her jeans, and followed the Professor towards the kitchen.
