((From Post Nap Cravings - Kitchen))
Phoebe was p*ssed, she thought she would burst. So, to relieve some anger, that's what she did. Her body erupted into flames and she screamed in rage as she threw fire onto the lake. Over the past few days, everything she liked about the Institute had gone from bad to worse. The only good things in her life at the moment were Tim and the fact that she'd found her father; but even those thoughts couldn't calm her now.
Her body ached to run through the woods, setting everything on fire. But she knew she couldn't do that. Not without John to help her control it. So she merely hurled fireballs unforgivingly at the lake.
I'm leaving, she thought. When my dad comes, I'm going back to Louisiana with him, I swear. However, even this thought made her angry, and she cried out as she hurled a barage of fire on the innocent, glassy surface of the lake.

::The Professor had left the kitchen and while glancing out the window, saw a burst of flame appear down by the lake. Phoebe. She was understandably upset.
He pushed aside all of his other thoughts and wheeled out towards the lake to try to calm her down. He came up behind her, speaking quietly.:: "You have every right to be angry."

She turned to the Professor, angry fire in her eyes. "Stay away from me," she said. Turning back to the lake, she hurled several more balls of fire at it before falling to her knees in exhaustion.
She took a deep breath and, coming down off her fire high, said quietly, "What happened here? When I came, it was great. Now everyone's angry at each other. The teachers are all angry at Mystique; you're angry at Professor Lensherr." She shook her head. "Why? And don't tell me it's complicated, because you'd be surprised at the level of complexities I can understand."

::The Professor remained where he was; he wouldn't encroach upon her personal space. He leaned forward, resting his hands in his lap. If she wanted candor, he would give it to her. His voice remained steady and strong as he spoke.:: "It's been a trying few weeks. The other staff consider it a security breach that Mystique is here. Most of them can hardly believe that I allowed Professor Lehnsherr to teach here, either. He taught here once before, when Storm and Cyclops and Jean were all students and it ended very poorly. But they understand my motivations there. After Alcatraz, they are less forgiving than I was. Many of them more protective of me than I am of myself. Mystique has never worked here and has spent her entire adult life with the Brotherhood, a terrorist organization. They are concerned by her presence.
As for myself and Professor Lehnsherr, we have a personal matter to work through. ::He said, his voice faltering for a moment. This was too much information to reveal all at once. He looked at his hands briefly, then back at her.:: "We will work through it, all of us, and the school will stop being so tense. I'm sorry that you were dragged into this."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 4, 2007, 7:55pm
She stayed silent, for a time, looking at him. Finally, she nodded. Getting shakily to her feet, she looked away from him for a minute, then spoke. "I found my dad. Turns out he hadn't died after all." She chuckled, but the sound was hollow. "He's coming to see me. I...haven't decided whether or not to go back with him."
Posted by The Man on Mar 4, 2007, 11:10pm
::The Professor nodded. It was great news that she had managed to find her father, that he was alive. He smiled encouragingly.:: "I certainly wouldn't want to lose you as a student, Phoebe. But do what your heart feels right."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 4, 2007, 11:33pm
Phoebe nodded. "I know," she said quietly. "I don't want to leave," she added. "It's just...all the animosity is starting to...suffocate me. The only time I can breathe properly is at night or when I'm in the city." She shook her head. "I just don't know anymore."
Sighing, she looked up at him. "I'm sorry, though, for losing control and setting fire to the lake." She chuckled but the smile faded rapidly and the sound was hollow. "Poor fish must hate my guts right about now."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 12:02am
"It's difficult right now," ::The Professor admitted, nodding his head.:: "And although you don't like this term, it's very complicated. But things cannot stay at this peak forever. The tension will begin to ease and things will return to normality. Slowly but surely."
::He tried to give her an encouraging smile, shrugging. Her throwing fire at the lake was one of the least destructive acts to take place on these grounds over the past few weeks. Nobody was injured. And the fish probably hadn't felt it.:: "It's all right, Phoebe. No real harm was done, and the cause was justified."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 12:09am
She nodded, scratching her head. "Yeah," she said. "I guess. Still, do you think it would be okay if I got out for awhile. Maybe get a job in the city? Just to get away during the day?"
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 12:12am
::He didn't like the idea of the students going off during the day to work, particularly considering the anti-mutant bias. But she seemed to need some time to herself.:: "Around your class schedule, you mean?"
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 12:27am
She nodded. "Yes, sir," she said. "I was hoping I could help Gambit at the Hellfire Club. At least there, I'll be safe. Well, safer."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 12:45am
::The Hellfire Club. He knew enough about it. It was mutants only, so that she shouldn't encounter prejudice. And Gambit was a fairly kind person. Enthusiastic and amorous, but he was nice enough. He would want to talk to him first, of course.:: "I'll help you set up an interview."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 1:06am
"Really?" She looked hopeful. "That'd be great."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 1:16am
::The Professor nodded.:: "Do you have a business card from the club, by any chance? So I can contact him more easily?"
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 1:38am
She shook her head. "No," she replied. "I forgot to pick one up when we went last. Mystique might, though. She works there, I think."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 1:52am
::When could Mystique have possibly had the time to work for Gambit? The Professor pondered the question, but nodded.:: "I will. And as soon as I contact him, I'll let you know the interview details."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 2:29am
She nodded. "Okay," she said. "But if you can't, you know, if you don't have time or something, don't worry about it. I'm sure I'll find my way to the Hellfire Club again eventually. Probably when my dad comes or something."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 2:31am
"When your father comes to visit, you should be free of other obligations so you can just enjoy his company," ::The Professor replied. He certainly wouldn't make her sacrifice time with her father to search out employment opportunities. Particularly when he could easily enough make contact with Gambit.::
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 2:42am
"Yeah," she said, turning to look out over the lake that no longer had fire burning on or near it. The patch of grass at her feet was complete ash, but other than that, the landscape was untouched. Quietly, she said, "He worked for Magneto, too. My dad." She shook her head. "That's why I didn't condemn Mystique. Because of my dad." She smiled. "And because she seems like a good person. She's the whole reason my dad's coming at all."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 2:45am
::The Professor's eyebrow raised. Just who was the young woman's father? Considering the size of Magneto's army, he could be one of a large number of possibilities. But what did he have to say to Mystique?:: "Is that so?"
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 2:56am
Phoebe nodded. "Yes, sir," she replied. "Mystique said they called him Multiple Man, because he could clone himself. But his real name is James Maddrox."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 2:58am
::His eyes widened slightly. James Maddrox was her father? And he would be at the mansion...So much for his hope for a return to normality.:: "I know of him."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 3:15am
Phoebe hung her head. "He's not what you think," she said. "I know he's done some stupid things in the past, but we all have. Please, he won't cause trouble, I promise. If I have to, I'll tell him he can't stay at the mansion, that it's too crowded."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 3:18am
::Both Magneto and Mystique were already staying at the mansion. There were a dozen unpredictable students running around with problems of their own. Things couldn't possibly get crazier, even if Maddrox visited.:: "That won't be necessary. Just tell me how long to expect him for."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 3:20am
She shook her head. "I don't know," she replied. "Heck, I don't even know if he's going to stay here yet or not. He didn't say much about it. Just seemed eager to hear from me."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 3:21am
"If I were in his position, I would be too." ::The Professor replied with a small smile."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 3:25am
She nodded silently, smiling to herself. "He said my mom told him I was dead, but he never gave up hope. Said he kept writing, but I never wrote back." She shook her head. "I think my mom trashed his letters."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 3:41am
::That was very possible. It was a common practice when one parent wanted to alienate the other parent from the child, to destroy any form of communication:: "But he found you. Or you him. And now you'll see him."
Posted by Phoebe on Mar 5, 2007, 3:46am
"Yeah," she smiled. Smiling at the Professor, she said, "Well, I feel better now. Less tense, anyway. I think I'm gonna turn in for the night."
Posted by The Man on Mar 5, 2007, 3:48am
::The Professor returned her smile with a nod.:: "That sounds like a wise course of action. And I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better."
