Typhoid followed the Professor, staring out around her as he wheeled ahead. "Ok, where to?"
Posted by The Man on Jan 28, 2007, 11:49am
"Back, behind the house, away from the garden. There's large, open space back there." ::He led her through the house towards the back entrance::
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 28, 2007, 12:58pm
"Alright." she followed him out. "Just...don't try down by Breakstone Lake. There's a good half mile out there that's a bit...ashy."
Posted by The Man on Jan 28, 2007, 3:45pm
::A half mile of ash by Breakstone Lake? He would need to investigate later, but...considering what she'd explained to him, it wasn't that surprising in retrospect. He could only imagine the emotional debate she'd been having before finally entering his office. He nodded:: "Thank you for the warning. Not by Breakstone Lake, then. How about on the other hill?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 28, 2007, 3:46pm
She shrugged. "Works for me."
Posted by The Man on Jan 29, 2007, 3:09pm
::He changed direction slightly and led her over to the other hill behind the mansion. From there, one had a view of the entire property, and generally, it was a place for relaxation and introspection. He stopped his chair at the top.:: "This works?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 29, 2007, 4:36pm
She smiled. The view was great. "Perfect." A bit nervous, she wanted to ask questions, decided to let him take the lead. His 'class', after all.
Posted by The Man on Jan 29, 2007, 10:30pm
"Wonderful." ::He opened the bag and began rifling through, looking for a particular item.:: "This begs the question, do you wish to do general power control, or take a trip to better understand your emotions?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 29, 2007, 10:54pm
Typhoid snorted. "Really, do I have to answer that? Today is NOT the day for anger management."
Posted by The Man on Jan 29, 2007, 11:02pm
"I wanted to be sure." ::He found the first item near the bottom of the bag. A regular blanket. He had to admit that his knowledge of her powers was spotty, and he wasn't entirely certain how the destructive ability worked. Unfolding the blanket, he laid it down between them:: "This is just an experiment so I can see how your powers work, but without a glove, touch the corner of the blanket"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 29, 2007, 11:04pm
Typhoid took off her glove, shrugged. "It won't do anything. It has to be alive." She touched the edge of the blanket, and as expected, nothing happened.
Posted by The Man on Jan 29, 2007, 11:09pm
::Indeed a gift could be a curse, He thought to himself, if the objects she touched had to be alive in order to be destroyed. It was good that he'd chosen this hill then, grassy as it was. When nothing happened to the blanket, he nodded slightly.:: "Then we'll try with grass. Pick a blade."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 29, 2007, 11:12pm
Typhoid grinned. "My condolences to your gardener," she said, unable to think of any other way to deal with her nervousness over experimenting with her power then joking about it.
She bent down, went to pick a blade of grass with her bare hand. A small circle of ash formed where the edges of the grass brushed her skin.
Posted by The Man on Jan 30, 2007, 3:52pm
"He's seen worse, I'm sure. At least as bad as the repairman," ::Xavier responded, attempting to keep his voice light, matching her tone. He had already seen what her powers could do when she was angry and concentrated, but he was still curious to see what her touch could do. Seeing the grass dissolve into ash, he nodded. This would be a lot of work.:: "I don't mean to dredge up painful memories, but when did you first realize this power?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Jan 30, 2007, 3:55pm
Her face went whiter then it already was. "Ah...I was thirteen...and when I clapped hands with one of the girls at the orphanage school I was in..." She couldn't finish the sentence, shook her head. "It was bad."
Posted by The Man on Feb 2, 2007, 3:20pm
::He nodded in understanding, his eyes slipping closed in empathetic pain. He could only imagine how it must have been:: "And you've been wearing the gloves ever since then?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 2, 2007, 5:21pm
"Yeah. As long as no one took them off of me." She firmly shut down the memories that came with the statement. This was NOT the time.
Posted by The Man on Feb 5, 2007, 6:42pm
::He assumed that there was a story attached to that statement, but didn't want to pry. He simply nodded in understanding and plucked a blade of grass. He held it out to her:: "From what you've explained, then, your powers won't work now that it's no longer alive?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 5, 2007, 9:45pm
"Touch won't..." She reached out and took the blade of grass. It didn't dissolve. "But if I concentrate a little..." She held it out, her palm up, and stared at it for a moment. It dissolved into a puff of dead plant matter. "That's what happens."
Posted by The Man on Feb 5, 2007, 9:54pm
::He nodded, reaching out his hand to examine the plant matter. It seemed that she had fairly good control of her powers. Which meant that in many ways, anger management was probably the best course for her right now.:: "When you're consciously concentrating, what's the range of that power?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 5, 2007, 10:01pm
She thought a minute. "If I don't want to lose control...I can do little things. Anywhere from blades of grass to pens to small boulders. It has to be near me. If I want to use it in a larger range, I usually lose control of it and..." She shrugged. "Well....when I went out to the lake earlier, you couldn't see anything beyond the area I destroyed, if you stood in the middle of it. I didn't exactly take a tape measure to it."
Posted by The Man on Feb 7, 2007, 7:11pm
::She couldn't see beyond the area where she stood? He would certainly need to go out later and take a look around the area. He nodded, listening to her description.:: "That's all right. That's descriptive enough, even without a tape measure."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 7, 2007, 10:50pm
She scuffed her foot in the grass, looking down. "It helps the headaches stay away for long then an hour."
Posted by The Man on Feb 8, 2007, 1:30am
::He understood. When he had first learned to use his powers, he would have constant migraines. They eventually lessened, although at particularly tense moments, he was still prone.:: "And it was just grass, so it's no big deal."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 8, 2007, 10:58am
She smiled; it was strange to hear the Professor use such a term as "no big deal."
"Well, grass, trees, rocks....a few small hills....but for your peace of mind we can just say grass, sure."
Posted by The Man on Feb 8, 2007, 12:18pm
"I'll call the landscaper tomorrow to repair the damage. But as long as it was not another statement or the mansion itself, it is of relatively little consequence."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 8, 2007, 1:52pm
She shook her head. "I don't think I got anything that isn't part of the grounds. Talk to Magneto, if you like. He's seen it from the air. I'm a little earthbound."
She finally looked up from her intense scrutiny of the grass. "Was there anything else you wanted me to try?"
Posted by The Man on Feb 9, 2007, 1:37am
"I think I will, thank you."
::The Professor paused. How to answer her question? Yes, there were a number of things he wanted her to try. But she was emotional and he didn't want to trigger something he couldn't stop. She had potential in her; she hadn't used the Cure on him, even though she could have. And considering the company that had asked her to, it was a most impressive feat. But aside from basic testing there was little that could be accomplished at present. Not unless she was willing to try anger management, and she had seemed reluctant. Finally, he came to a decision; he would play it safe for the day.:: "Not unless you wanted to try something else."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 9, 2007, 10:56am
She paused, thought for a moment. Working with any sort of power made her slightly nervous, but after the lake, if she was going to make anyone fully understand what she could do, now was the time, when her head didn't hurt and was relatively clear. But this part...a part of her power she rarely used....this made her more scared then using her power for destructive ends. It could so easily turn the other way if she tried.
Christ, she was such a coward.
Her voice very quiet, she finally made up her mind. "You said you wanted to know about everything I can do?"
Posted by The Man on Feb 10, 2007, 12:33am
::He nodded his head; he was very curious to see what she could do. But he also sensed her hesitation and didn't want to pressure her.:: "Yes, I would. But I don't wish you to work outside of your comfort zone."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 10, 2007, 11:56am
Well, then. That settled it. Comfort zone, hell. It was going to give her another headache, but... She knelt down, holding out her hand to just hover about the small circle of ash in the grass, and shut her eyes, hard. She had to force her power into submission for this, and it hurt to do it. Her forehead beaded with sweat, and when she opened her eyes there were dark circles around them that hadn't been there before, and a brand new headache to go with them.
There were also brand new blades of grass in the circle in the ground. "Sometimes I can undo what I do." Her voice betrayed her tiredness from the effort.
Posted by The Man on Feb 13, 2007, 7:06pm
::He was captivated by the demonstration she had given. He leaned forward, reaching out to touch the new blades of grass. It was a miracle, and it gave him hope. There was a way to undo all damage, it appeared.:: "That's incredible."
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 13, 2007, 7:10pm
"Yeah, incredibly painful." She winced and rubbed the back of her head. "My power's not made to do that, I guess. Hurts every time."
Posted by The Man on Feb 13, 2007, 7:22pm
::He could only imagine the exertion it took to create life and he nodded:: "Do you want to go in and get some rest?"
Posted by Typhoid Mary on Feb 13, 2007, 7:32pm
She wanted to keep going, but....God her head hurt. "I should probably, yeah."
Posted by The Man on Feb 13, 2007, 7:34pm
"Then let's go. We can continue tomorrow, when you're feeling more up to it."
Typhoid followed the Professor, staring out around her as he wheeled ahead. "Ok, where to?"
