Shade had to admit it was kind of a strange feeling that she was holding back with her powers, had the feeling she had to for now, to not scare the girl. It made her notice that using her invisibility in the one of other way had become natural to her over the years, even if it was just little things to underline a certain mood like doodling invisible lines or playing around with her powers in various ways.
She gave him a lopsided smile. "Well.." she said. "that´ll probably come as quite some news. She sounds like she has been given the powers talk before. Only the bigoty version of it."

"I don' give a damn," Gambit smirked. "She'll have it my way now."

Shade chuckled, turning around to lean against the counter. "You know," she said. "if she just got part of your character, this will be so much fun to watch in the next weeks. Cause if that is so, it will be fun to place bets on who´ll get their head through the wall."

Remy wasn't sure if having his frame of character was a good thing at all, so he made no comment in that respect. "Ah yeah," he nodded sarcastically, "I'll get ya some pop-corn while I'm at it."

"Should be entertaining," Shade agreed with a fake serious nod. There was a serious undertone to that, of course there was, since this was not going to be easy. Probably they had seen nothing yet, Shade was pretty sure of that. But right now she reckoned that the best way to face this sort of thing was at least with a tinge of humour, not to ridicule anything but just because she was someone who liked to make people feel good, sometimes by facing problems with somewhat of a all-will-be-well attitude.
She watched the food simmer in the pan, feeling how hungry she was. She had been running around for most of the day, getting things together without stopping to eat. "I´m part-time at Xavier´s right now," she said after a moment. "I wanted to cut down a little and get readjusted now that I start remembering everyone. Means I´m a bit more flexible."

"Not dat I meant to get ya involved," Gambit said after a moment's thinking, "but thank you." He noticed her hungry look, raise the lid off the frying pan for a moment and stirred. Rice was already almost ready; just a few minutes more and they'd be having jambalaya. he was certain that Connie wouldn't be able to eat even a mouthful of the spicy meal, but he could always whip up some quick stuff for her to eat if she showed any interest in eating.

Shade didn´t reply to that, but got the plates from the cupboard, standing on her toe tips as she did so. "I brought lots of calories stuff from the city," she said. "So how about we hang out tonight, maybe watch a movie? I was considering some getting drunk, but...oh well... Or will you have to check in on the club?"

Gambit did entertain some thoughts of visiting the Club at some point that day, but with a kid in his care any plans of that kind were heavily compromised. "I might, later at night," he said. "It's been quiet recently, anyway."

Shade considered that for a moment. "I´ve been following the news," she said then. "I don´t like what´s going on there, there is more and more negative reporting and fear mongering. It makes me feel uneasy."

Gambit tried the rice and switched the heat off. "It don't matter," he said. "I'll be takin' things as dey come." He got the plates and started to put jambalaya on them. "D'ya suppose we should ask Connie t' come out an' eat?"

Shade was sure he would and just as sure was she that he would brave everything that might threaten him, or her. He was a survivor, always had been. But she couldn´t help but feel worried, not about any of them in particular, but about the development she was observing as a whole. She had heard of a senator, just a few days ago, suggesting a law for mutant registration and maybe it was a history teacher thing, but she couldn´t help but drawing parallels...
She cut off those thoughts and nodded. This was what she had meant earlier. Some stability. "Yes," she said. "if she doesn´t want anything, she can always say so, but she should at least have a little."

"Awright," Remy nodded. Then he looked at their two plates, feeling a bit lost. And he was, really; quite lost in this puzzle of playing house, something that he had never-ever planned for himself and something that, although avoided like plague, had just come crashing down on him, messing up with his plans and beliefs.
"I'll be right back," he added and walked out of the kitchen. The chair, he remembered. That damn third chair.

Shade looked after him, sympathising but knowing he would want no pity for that, but her feeling for him more rooted in the fact that she felt quite a bit like he did as well. She did not regret what she had said the day before about not wanting to walk out, this was not what this relationship was about for her, walking out when things became uncomfortable. But she herself did not really feel like someone who could handle little children well. Teenagers with all their problems and the additional problems that mutant teenagers sometimes had were fine, but anything under the age of seven or eight was entirely new and felt a little awkward. Probably some of her femals colleagues roughly her age group would handle this a little differently.
She noticed there were just two plates on the table and went to pick a third.

Either Connie was pretending to be asleep or her sleep was restless - Remy knew she wasn't deep asleep when he stepped into the room. He crouched down next to the bed. "Hey chere," he said quietly, "d'ya feel like eatin'? We're about t' have some dinner."
She opened her eyes just the tiny bit and murmured something along the general lines of refusal. He decided to press. After all, if adults succumbed to his persuasion ability, she'd fall right for it.
"Come on, chere," he added some inviting undertones to his voice, "I've got all kinds of yummy stuff for ya."
But, to his surprise, he was met with the same meek refusal. After waiting out for a moment - maybe she'd change her mind - he stood up. "Well, if you decide t' come out, food will be dere."
Then he returned to the kitchen, defeated.

Even before her memory loss, Gambit´s persuasive ability was something Shade had never been able to grasp. For her, it came in the form of state border security giving way to a stolen car even though the one Gambit was driving matched the description of what they were looking for, or in form of people being talked into giving them the best tables in a booked out restaurant (the latter of which could also be attributed to his charms, she sometimes thought, these little events that right now she did not connect to the situation since some of her past was still obscured or blurred). but she had never seen it as a part of his powers, nor had they ever talked about it as such.
Therefore, it did not cross her mind that he might have tried it with the little girl without his attempts yielding any results.
"Not hungry?" she asked, coming to that conclusion when Gambit returned alone with a somewhat sullen look on his face.
