"More or less the same with me," Alex nodded. "And I'm thankful for it. The highest price that I have to pay for this is the lack of total control over my powers, and still it's not as bad as with some people." Scott, for one, he thought, but didn't say it out loud. Scott had gotten it far worse than he himself had, and this would bring a small twinge of guilt every once in a while.

Violet was quiet for a moment, thinking about the different people she'd met and the issues they'd had with their powers. Then she pushed the thought aside. There were too many sad things to think about these days, and she had, just moments before, been having a lot of fun. "So, have you decided whether or not you're going to stay?" She asked, changing the subject.

"I have, yes," Alex nodded. "I'm definitely staying and there is a lot for me to do. I'll see if I can apply for a place in one of the universities around here as well."

"To continue your studies?" Violet asked. He'd once spoken about teaching, so she wasn't sure. She noted that it made her feel better to know he was staying.

"Yes, in Geology," Alex nodded. He glanced at her, wondering which of the two most popular reactions he'd get, interest or disappointment.

"Good for you," she said, smiling. "I sometimes think about going back to school, but I just don't have the time these days." Though the conversation had mellowed out, Violet was still fighting her impulsive urges to do all sorts of childish things. She had a lot of excess energy and wanted to run or climb or even go swimming. When the thought of swimming crossed her mind, she remembered the pool and had to push the thought out of her mind. You're having a grown up conversation, don't be a fool and annoy him again, she thought to herself.

"Maybe you will, someday," Alex supposed. "What would you specialize in? Physics, I assume - but what exactly?"

"I'm not sure. I finished my Masters degree last year, and I feel like that's enough school for now," she replied. The lure of the pool was getting stronger, but she gritted her teeth and fought it. After a brief pause, she realized that the pool was where she wanted to be. She stopped walking and said, in her most serious voice, "Alex?"

Alex randomly thought that if she'd already done her Master's, that meant she was either older than him or much smarter. He didn't have time to focus on that thought as he raised his eyes to look at her. "Uh, yes?"

Keeping the same deadly serious look on her face, she said, "Do you remember how I told you that I'm incredibly impulsive to the point of childishness sometimes?"

"Just two minutes ago," Alex confirmed, then wondered where this was leading. Inwardly he prepared himself for anything, and also found that he probably wouldn't even mind.

"Well, in less than a minute, it's going to happen again, and at that point you'll have a choice to make," she started to crack a smile, and took a step backwards, away from him. Then, without further ado, she turned around and took off running again. They'd followed the path far enough for her to have a better idea of where they were, so she headed for the pool. He'd either follow her or think she was crazy, but at this point, she was tired of analyzing things. She'd spent too much time recently either working or feeling sorry for herself, and at this moment, she wanted to go swimming.

Alex sighed, shook his head, almost laughing, and ran after her. If anything, he could use some running in the evening, as a part of his daily exercise routine.

Violet tore down the path, laughing as the wind blew through her hair. It felt good to just move, release the negativity. She didn't look back to see if Alex was following her, because it didn't matter. She'd prefer it if he did, but either way, she was feeling better and doing something she wanted to do. As she approached the pool, she kicked off her shoes, which caused her to stumble slightly, but she kept moving. She peeled off her jacket, and once she actually arrived at the side of the pool, she took off her jeans and jumped in, wearing her underclothes and her t-shirt, none of which were white, thankfully.

When Alex left the wooded area through which the path lead back to the mansion, and found himself in the open area, he could already see what Violet was up to. He slowed down, a bit perplexed by that, as he watched her jump into the pool, but in the next second he recalled that this was actually what she'd warned him about. Alex, you did get the memo, he told himself. This completely outruled the need to be confused. He decided that he could have an easier attitude about it.
"Well-well," he said with a grin, approaching the pool. "So, firstly," he placed his hands on his hips, observing Violet. "You definitely get the award for the least predictable person I've ever met."
