"Didn' I say?" Bella asked. "About a personal matter."

"You said that." Shade said, showing that she remembered and had asked that question for a purpose. Again she paused. Weighed her options. What she said next was a risk. But not a big one. She was almost certain. "We´re both beating around the bush here, aren´t we?" she finally said.

Bella Donna made a wry face. She was aware that she was kind of drunk now and it made her miscalculate her actions; still, she felt it was a dare, in a way, and besides, this wasn't a job, she didn't come here to stalk, kill or interrogate Gambit's girlfriend, so any subtlety could be forgone for now. A brief thought about Gambit's reaction to this conversation flashed through her mind, only to be quickly replaced with a resolute objection to that. If he claimed his activities were not her business, she could claim the same.
"Yeah, I guess," she nodded and made a pause while studying her glass. "One of de waitresses told me you're Gambit's girlfriend."

Shade nodded, thinking for a moment. This was bizarre. She didn´t know much about this woman, hardly anything at all. She had always been out of the picture, somewhere far away, down in New Orleans where Gambit went now and then but that was episodes as far as she knew. She didn´t know what their relationship actually looked like or whether there still was much of a relationship at all. After all she knew or could piece together, he could not stay in New Orleans long because of something that involved the guilds which meant they must have been separated for a long time, several years possibly. Which didn´t make the fact that his wife was sitting here with her, over a drink (!), any less weird.
"I guessed." she said. There was no confirmation necessary of what the other woman had just said. It was stating the obvious. "I didn´t think it would have been a good way to introduce myself."

"No, I guess not," Bella chuckled, still nurturing the last tiny bit of hope that she could avoid fully disclosing her status in regards to Gambit.

There was more she could have said about this. Such as her reasons for keeping quiet about who she was, the foremost of all being that she knew the other woman could be a danger and in more ways than just being a jealous and heartbroken wife. As if that wasn´t bad enough. But then again, she still neither sported some stab wound nor anything else in that direction. Small blessings. Such as alcohol.
Speaking of which: "The next round´s on me." she said.

"Bah," Bella Donna shone a smile, "merci, mais non... I think I've had enough for t'night," she waved her hand in a sign of refusal.

Shade gave a short laugh of that. "Come on, I´m half scared you might rip my head off, alcohol is my protection." She waved over to the bar tender, insisting that the order be taken.

"Ah, so ya want t' get me drunk?" Bella asked. She frowned at Shade, as if having a difficulty to concentrate through a severe headache. Which, something told her, she'd have the next morning. "Why would I screw yer head off?"

Shade wondered whether Bel was really so different from how she had imagined and Gambit had described her or whether the alcohol indeed softened up what Gambit had called a bad temper. Or whether the other woman was still trying to refuse placing the cards on the table. "Because I´m sleeping with your husband." she said, surprised about the bluntness of her own words. She downed the rest of her cocktail in an attempt to deny she had just said that.

"So?" Bella shrugged. "Everybody is. Even I," she chuckled, quite amused, not even noticing that she didn't deny the fact of being Gambit's wife - she was somehow past concealing it now.

Interesting, Shade thought. This was quite contrary to what she had thought might happen. Well, all the better for her neck she guessed and she was quite sure that possibly the alcohol added to it. "So you´re okay with that?" she asked, in a mix of amusement and disbelief. Not about the fact that Gambit wasn´t exactly the epitome of monogamy, but at her reaction.

"No," Bella said, in a sudden seriousness. "But it ain't like I got much choice. I mean, I'd love to chain him to bed in my place an' keep 'im in N'awlins forever, but it ain't entirely up to me." She took a long gulp from her cocktail, feeling aggravated at herself.

Shade was not sure whether to feel genuinely interested or awkward. She twisted the new cocktail glass in her hand, not even sure whether she was even up to drink another one since she could feel the effect of the first as a slight dizzyness already. "Who is it up to, then?" she asked. There had to be a reason behind the sporadic visits. Were they merely estranged or was there something else. And why did she even ask that? It was none of her business after all.

"Well, lots of people," Bella said, looking sad now. It really had been a long, tiresome, intricate affair throughout the years since Gambit's exile and in a sense even before that. "Him as well, an' the Guilds. It's all-" she made a vague gesture with both hands. "Complicated."
