Kitty ducked down and rolled backward, away from her attacker, but unfortunately, right into the alley. Once again she got to her feet, but she stayed in a low stance. The man was tall and Kitty was short, so it was to her advantage to stay out of his optimal striking range. "You picked the wrong girl, mister," she said with confidence. Kitty realized that, with his willingness to strike on a crowded street in mid-afternoon and his aggressive approach, that this man would be an unpredictable opponent, so she watched him carefully and decided to stay on the defensive.

::There was an ambient reading on the man's mutant-identification device, but he paid it no attention. He had to subdue the girl in front of him. She boasted her abilities, and to her credit took a self-defense pose, but he was prepared to do what was necessary. Recovering his balance from their contact thus far, he reached onto his belt for the tear gas, intending to give her a spray.::

As Aurora reached the alley, she felt the familiar flood of vertigo that signaled Jeanne-Marie was surfacing. She only a fraction of a moment to get a good look at the girl and her attacker before she was gone.
Jeanne Marie blinked hard against the afternoon light. She was in her work uniform, standing in an alley. In front of her, a young girl had been cornered by a man, but didn't look scared. She shivered to think why the demon that possessed her had brought her into this situation, but she didn't intend to stick around and find out. She looked at her watch, which included the date in the digital display, in order to establish how much time she'd lost and felt the tears well when she realized it had been close to a week. Reaching into her pocket, she retrieved a small piece of paper with her work schedule on it. She moved back onto the sidewalk, figured out where she was, and starting pushing through the crowd. She still had just enough time to go to church before she had to be back to work. Her only hope was to pray, possibly give confession. No matter how persistent the demon was, Jeanne-Marie had to stay strong and fight it.

Kitty took note of the girl who had rushed into the alley, only to stop, look confused, and then run away. She didn't let this distract her, though, and remained focused on her attacker. He reached for the canister on his belt with a subtle quickness and Kitty made the mistake of rushing him, attempting to sweep her right hand under his left to block it's motion with the intent to ram her left hand into his chin. As she moved in for the preventative block, she left herself open and in close range to the tear gas.

::The agent could not pay too close attention to the mutant bystander because he was too heavily engaged in fighting with the one he had been sent to track and capture. While the girl managed to get a good punch in, causing him to jerk his head backward and bite down on his tongue. The taste of blood filled his mouth and he turned his head briefly to spit. And then he sprayed the tear gas in her face.::

Kitty choked as the gas hit her in the face and fell backwards, clutching her throat. She would have kicked herself for leaving such an opening if she could think of anything other than the pain and inability to breathe.

::While the mutant was on the ground gasping for breath, the man readied the restraints he'd brought with him.::

Kitty's vision was blurred by the gas, and she still couldn't breathe. Her mind raced, but she was unable to react. Still unable to stand, she began to retch.

::The agent made a sound of complete disgust as she began to vomit; he wasn't paid enough for this. Coming around her side, he leaned forward to pick her up and throw her over his shoulder.::

Kitty felt rage at her own helplessness as she was carried away.
