"Your arrogance and ignorance astounds me," Erik said, frowning slightly, as the other man became openly aggressive.

"*My* arrogance and ignorance astounds *you?*" ::Karl repeated the statement as a question for emphasis. He lowered his hand, although he didn't slip it back into his coat pocket; he might require it later.:: "You approached me out of a crowd, peddling some ideology because I have a physical mutation, and the minute I don't take the bait, I'm ignorant? The stick doesn't become you, Erik; you should try the carrot again."

"I peddle nothing," Erik snapped, stepping back. The loose change in his pocket hummed, as did the metal on the other man. "I simply look for like-minded mutants, nothing more."

"You assume I'm like-minded because I'm not white or brown," ::Karl said, his eyes growing a deeper red, because he was equally frustrated with the encounter.:: "And because I'm obvious in my mutation, you assumed that I must resent society because I'm not treated well, while at the same time you're picking me out for the same reasons, if not the same goal. You have the same mindset as all those humans, Erik; it's the luxury of looking normal."

"I most certainly do not," Erik snapped. "You seek to insult me, nothing more, when I had simply wanted to discuss the political movements against our kind."

"Why would I seek to insult you? I don't know you," ::Karl pointed out. Psychiatric training gave him the ability to nitpick quite easily and to put another on the defensive with nary a word.:: "You approached me, not the other way around."

Erik blinked at that, and scowled. "But not with intent to insult you, Sir. A simple refusal would have sufficed, but yet you continue to try and insult me."

"At what point did I insult you worse than you did me?" ::Karl asked, exasperated. He was about ready to leave, but he wanted to know what this man could possibly be thinking.:: "You made a judgment about what I must think, I refuted. You started in accusing human beings of treating me poorly; I warned you not to go any further. You called me arrogant and ignorant, and I returned the favor. I don't know you, but I can tell you don't like being proven wrong or being denied. What did you expect? The sad, green man would buy whatever you're selling just because he's sad and green? And now that I'm not so easy a mark after all, it must be some flaw of *mine* rather than you making a baseless assumption?"

Erik gave a snort of mixed anger and contempt. "You are a fool, and I should not have wasted my time," He snapped. Clearly, this misguided fool was choosing to become a human's pet, rather than inherit his own birthright. "Go back to playing with your humans."

"You're proving me right," ::Karl informed him. He slipped his hand into his jacket pocket, no longer entertaining the thought of shoving him aside as he had a moment ago. He could do it as easily with words now, and he was game to, particularly as he was in a foul mood, and this man was walking the line of insulting Tanya's memory.:: "Lashing out, prejudice - a persecution complex, I should say, if not also Napoleonic. You should consider therapy; I know the name of a mutant psychiatrist."

"A persecution complex?" Erik repeated, completely baffled. "I only happen to be well-informed, boy," He said condescendingly. "I know when I am being actively persecuted."

"A stopped watch is right twice a day," ::Karl informed him. He didn't deny that there was plenty of anti-mutant bias, as he had experienced his fair share. Given the age of this man, it was quite possible he had experienced that or worse, appearances aside; he appeared to be part of the so-called "Greatest Generation," which left plenty of persecution for all. That said, he hadn't done anything to the man that the older man hadn't begun, and reaping what one sowed couldn't be compared to persecution, imagined or real. That this other man was taking more than due offense to being told he was both wrong and irritating told him more than enough.::

"A stopped watch should be thrown away," Erik retorted. The metal the other man was wearing pulled him back a bit, to show that Erik was being quite serious. "I think you should leave, now."

::Karl felt a pull on him by an invisible force, undoubtedly the result of the other man's powers; perhaps he was a telekinetic. It would be something to watch, but he wouldn't allow himself to be pushed around by a senior citizen looking to prove a point. He pulled his other hand from his pocket, barren of both watch and ring and took a step forward.:: "Don't force me to defend myself, Erik."

"Do not force me to hurt you," Erik said sternly. "I trust you believe me when I say I have years of experience and control over you, boy." He would surely win any fight, due to the nature of his powers and years of fighting experience.
