Sleeping on the Patio

[Pietro Maximoff]

"All of the kitchen pots floated," ::Pietro remembered how confusing meals would be. Uncle had lectured Magneto about frivolous use of magnetism in front of them both, but the two adults had habits that had been hard to break. It had been frightening.::

[Wanda Maximoff]

She nodded. "And Uncle knowing what we were going to say before we said it? Or even when we refused to say it?" That had been frightening at first, also.

[Pietro Maximoff]

"It is still infuriating," ::Pietro muttered. With his recent emotions, he was more paranoid still about his privacy being invaded.::

[Wanda Maximoff]

"But we are no longer frightened by it," she reminded him. Yes, sometimes the idea that he knew exactly what they were thinking before they even thought about saying it...sometimes was annoying, to say the least. And Pietro was always worried about privacy; Uncle's gifts didn't help Pietro's worries in the least.

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro nodded slightly; Wanda was right. They were no longer frightened.:: "No, we are not."

[Wanda Maximoff]

"But it did help get us used to this place," she added. "Remember when he cooked our favorite foods, without us having to tell him?" That had been one of the more delightful memories of their first few months with Uncle and Magneto, away from the Maximoffs.

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro nodded slightly. He remembered that fairly well; the old memories had come back these past months. It had been hard to get some of those ingredients, and their favorite foods were meager because of their upbringing. They had been touched by the effort.:: "He said he was a good guesser."

[Wanda Maximoff]

She smiled softly. "Even then we were suspicious. But...he's family now." He was their Uncle Charles, their family.

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro nodded once. They were family, and they had long since stopped being the two innocent foreign-speaking children they once were. They only feared what should be feared, and he no longer believed in what went "bump" in the night. There were far worse threats than idle spirits.:: "He is, and the mansion is not as big as it was then."

[Wanda Maximoff]

"I want to stay, Pietro," she said suddenly. "Not just to stay with Uncle, but to stay with Ororo and the others, and fight. Not that Uncle doesn't need looking after," she added.

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro turned to gaze at his sister; her words took him by surprise. Why would she come to the decision, at this moment of all points in time? Yet as always, her thoughts echoed his, and he had the same feelings as she did. He he mulled them over these months, but had not fully broached the subject with her.:: "Do we tell Scott that we wish to be X-Men?"

[Wanda Maximoff]

"I'm not sure," she told him truthfully. "Or would we rather just be the 'protectors', Brother?" She wasn't sure how different their jobs now would be if they decided to become X-Men.

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro considered his sister's question, flexed his fingers in hers.:: "We would have to be obedient to be X-Men."

[Wanda Maximoff]

"We're not tame enough," she said, her fingers curling around his. "I think we should just stick to being the watchers."

[Pietro Maximoff]

::Pietro agreed with his sister, at least at present. He could take orders from Scott in battle, but he could not present a unified front in face of Uncle's foolishness. If they remained as watchers, they could retain their independence.:: "Then we will stay watchers."
