(( Move from: New York City :: Gambit's apartment ))
Gambit brought Shade to a place in East Manhattan, one that looked out over the river. He liked to have breakfast there every now and then because in the morning, it was a sunny side of the island. He grabbed two menus from the stand, and they sat down by the window.

Shade sat down and grabbed for the menu he handed her. It wasn´t too long until she had to return to the institute, but it would be enough time for a decent breakfast.
"Lovely view." she said, looking out of the window. "I can´t even remember when I went out for breakfast the last time." she added. Normally it was a quickly made toast and a gulp of cocoa or something of the like, but this was a nice change.

"Don' think it usually happen t' people who live in deir own home an' have time t' cook," Remy said. "Mind if I smoke?"
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 14:14
"Or the motivation to cook more likely" she commented with a wry smile. Then she shook her head. "No it´s all right."
She took a mental note on his politeness. She was no smoker herself but didn´t mind if others did, but asking definitely meant he wasn´t mindless about it.

"Yeah," Remy nodded, taking a cigarette out of his pack, "two an' a half kids would defin'ly motivate one t' cook."
He brushed his finger against the tip of the cigarette, using his powers to light it, and took a smoke.
(( be back in 3 hrs ))

"And that´s why I´m happy I don´t have kids yet." Shade said with a chuckle.
She watched how he lit the cigarette and for a moment couldn´t explain how he had done it. Then it dawned on her. If he could explode things that would be an easy thing to do. "I guess you´d never freeze to death if someone left you in a forest, right?" she asked with a little grin.
((okay *forces self to work*))
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 14:46
"Ya mean my powers?" Remy asked. "I can't make fire. I jus' can explode somethin' an' hope it goes on fire. Or do it de old-fashioned caveman stick-rubbin' way."
He just realized it was the first time he had used his powers in front of her. He wondered if that meant Shade wasn't curious or she felt it to be too personal a thing to ask a demonstration of. Either way, it was unusual.
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 14:50
"Uh huh" she said nodding. "I didn´t know it worked with small things, too. When you told me about exploding things I got that kind of..." she waved her hand. "McGyver image you know? Explosions that usually go with a big bang."
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 15:52
"Sand, dust, you name it," Remy said, smirking. "How big de bang is, depend on de size of things. Like, if I charge dis table," he knocked on the table between them, "prob'ly half of dis building will collapse."
(( are we ready to order yet? ))
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 15:56
Shade chuckled. "Oh, then please don´t. Poor table." she patted the table. She might have guessed his powers worked like this. She could level hers, too. She had another look through the menu, still unsure about what to order.
((yeah, I think so. When someone arrives to take orders, she´ll decide ))

A waitress arrived to take their orders. Remy ordered a cup of coffee - he wasn't hungry - and glanced at Shade.

She ordered a cup of hot chocolate and a roll with honey. When the waitress left she looked at him. "Not hungry?" she asked.

"I finished off de Chinese stuff two hours ago," Remy explained, smoking.
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:09
"Ah." she said. "Hope that was still edible." As she had said before she had never tried cold Chinese food, but couldn´t imagine it was a too good thing to eat.
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:14
"Absolutely," Remy smiled. "Anythin's edible when Gambit's hungry."
He flipped the ash off the cigarette.
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:15
She grinned. "I noticed that" she said, remembering how he had attacked the steak and potatoes she had made for him days back.
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:17
Gambit gave her a charming smile and took another smoke.
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:21
The waitress arrived with their orders and Shade started on her roll, realising only then how hungry she was. The last thing she had eaten had been their Chinese dinner which was some hours back already.
"How did you discover your powers?" she asked after a moment, taking a sip of her chocolate.
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:23
"I don't think... you want to know," Remy said slowly. "Not at breakfast, at de very least."
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:27
"Okay." she nodded feeling stupid. "Maybe I shouldn´t have asked. I´m sorry." Come on Shade, her inner voice remarked, could you please think first, then ask? With a power like his, it sure was no piece of cake to have it shown for the first time.
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:33
" 's okay," Remy shrugged, "I got used to havin' it a part of my memories. But I wouldn' want you t' do the same."
(( honestly, I have no idea how Gambit's powers triggered. Just a gap in my knowledge. The story I'm using for Gambit here, I've read in some fanfic, it was scary, but stuck in his image in my head forever. ))
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:37
That sounded like a long story and probably one not too easy or happy. She nodded. This didn´t seem to have to do with the usual distance he tried to keep when it came to information about his own life, she guessed. And she was fine with him not telling.
"All right." Shade said, taking a bite of her breakfast. "But after that, you´re free to ask me something uncomfortable now." She grinned.
(( okay. I could have guessed but oh well. Shade behaving on her own accord again ))
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:44
"Ain't dat a charmin' invitation," Remy squinted, smiling, before he took a sip of his coffee. "I could. But first I gotta decide whether I really want t' make ya uncomfortable."
(( Let her do it as much as she likes ))
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:46
Shade made a face and laughed. "Oh, damn, I guess I just opened Pandora´s Box, didn´t I?"
(( ))
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 16:49
"Som'in like it," Remy agreed, "an' dat's 'cause you're dyin' of curiosity of what I might ask."
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 16:52
"Curiosity is my middle name." she stated feinging seriousness. "So yeah, of course I am."
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 17:03
"Speakin' of names," Remy said, "I was thinkin' of askin' 'bout yer real name, but figured that'd be just ten minutes worth of Internet search, if I was really interested." He pulled at his cigarette. "Instead, you could tell me how ya feel 'bout Magneto."
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 17:15
She looked up and was glad she managed not to choke on her piece of roll as she had already swallowed it. Damn, Shade.
She tried to sound casual. "How should I feel about him?" she asked. "I was in the Brotherhood, I left which he doesn´t know yet..." she trailed off. She was sure Gambit guessed more.
Posted by Gambit on May 3, 2007, 17:19
"Uh-huh," Remy nodded, drinking from his cup. "And?"
Posted by Shade on May 3, 2007, 17:21
Definitely, he knew more. "And ..." she said. "something tells me you already have a theory." She had not seen Erik for months, she had made up her mind about the Brotherhood and yes, she was still worried for him because of his long absense. Her feelings for him however, she believed had changed these last few weeks.
