The bike brought them to a place in East Manhattan. Remy parked the bike, took of his helmet and turned to Shade.
"You're up for somethin' you've never done before?" he asked.
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 22:30
She took off the helmet and looked around. The place was completely unfamilar. Looking over at Gambit she nodded, a curious glimmer in her eyes. "Sure." she said. "What is this place?"
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 22:34
"Let's go," Remy got off the bike and offered Shade his hand. "Dis gonna be fun. Consider it a Danger Room prototype."
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 22:39
She took his hand and felt her typical curiosity nag her. "Sounds interesting" she said. "Never been to the danger room though so I´ll just take what this is like as a surprise."
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 22:45
Remy lead her inside. He stopped her in front of shelves with what looked like SWAT costumes, masks and boots. The shelves were marked with sizes.
"Choose your size, den I explain what dis all's about." With that, he proceeded to choosing his own costume.
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 22:50
Shade followed his example and walked over to the shelves, picking up a costume and pair of boots her size. She wasn´t sure about the mask but picked one she thought would fit her.
"These should fit." she said looking over at Gambit.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 22:56
"Awright," Remy said. "I'll be right back."
He went off to pay and get the guns, the swipe cards and locker keys, and handed one set to Shade when he returned.
"Dis is your laser gun," he said. "We're gonna put on dese costumes, go into one of de zones here an' shoot each other. Dat's it."
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 23:01
She took the gun and the other things he handed to her and weighed the weapon in her hand. "Sounds like fun." she said with a grin. "I´ve never tried any of these before though."
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 23:06
"So I've guessed," Remy winked. "So, de swipe card is for doors, de key is for your locker, an' when you're ready, head for zone D. I'll meetcha dere an' explain how it goes."
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 23:09
"Okay." she said and winked back, then walked off to change into the costume.
It was an unusual feeling and she moved her arms and legs a little to get accustomed to it. When she was ready she took the gun and went over to zone D finding Gambit already waiting for her.
"So how do I look" she asked, still feeling somewhat funny in the costume.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 23:19
"A very sexy target," Remy grinned, jokingly pointing the gun at her.
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 23:23
Shade chuckled. "If the ´sexy target´ knew how to work this thing" she said turning the gun over, trying to figure out how it worked "she might even kick your ass." She grinned.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 23:33
"Seriously hope ya can kick it, chere," Remy nodded with a smiled. "So..." he turned the gun in Shade's hands a little, indicating with his hand. "You aim, press dat button, an' it shoots." He pointed at target marks all over his costume. "Dese targets will light up when we enter de zone. De zone is like a disco - mostly dark, but wit' black light, so all obstacles, walls, levels an' targets are all bright an' shiny. We get half an hour of shootin' each other. If ya hit de target, your points are marked on a scoreboard on a wall. When we finish, we see who won."
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 23:37
She was pretty sure she didn´t really stand a chance against him, but neverthelesss thought it would be great fun to see how far she could get.
"All right." she said and nodded. "Think I got it."
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 23:45
"Bon," Remy nodded. He took his swipe card and opened the door in front of them, inviting Shade inside. The zone greeted them with darkness and glowing neon shapes.
Posted by Shade on Apr 29, 2007, 23:50
She walked past him to enter the room and had a first look around to get her eyes used to the darkness. The obstacles and walls were highlighted luckily, as he had said before as she noted with relief. She turned to face him. "So where do we start?" she asked beaming up at him. This was going to be fun
Posted by Gambit on Apr 29, 2007, 23:56
"Right here," Remy replied, waving his gun at her. "Good luck," and he ran off into the labyrinth of obstacles, quickly taking cover. It would be no point for them to start shooting each other right away, so he put some distance between them first.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 0:01
When he headed off, she stood for a short moment, wondering where to run, then simply ran into the opposite direction, looking around to try and get an idea about her surrounding. Then she turned right quickly to hide behind an obstacle keeping her gun raised .
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 0:06
When Remy looked out from behind a neon "rock" he was hiding at, Shade was already nowhere to be seen. Silently he complimented her on her good reaction and carefully skipped the space between his rock and the next one, trying to see where she was.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 0:11
Leaning her back against the wall she was hiding behind, Shade shifted to the side along the wall which ended about three metres further to the right. She carefully turned her head around it to look out, but couldn´t see Gambit anywhere. He was probably hiding somewhere and she had no idea where he could be. Scanning what she could see of the room she saw no trace of him and , standing at the edge of the wall, ready to run, decided to wait for a moment whether he´d give up cover.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 0:17
Remy noticed a speck of light on Shade's mask when she glanced from behind the wall. He decided to make a beeline for the next cover opposite of Shade's hiding place.
Running, he shot at her and ducked behind the other wall just as a sound signal notified him that his target was hit. He didn't stop and continued moving deeper inside the labyrinth, knowing that Shade would probably follow him.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 0:23
She swore under her breath and pulled back her head too late. So she had to be more careful about peeking around corners then. She extended her arm and aimed at him from where she was hiding while he ran but missed him. While Gambit was still running, she dashed for an obstacle that was closer to where he seemed to be heading but didn´t leave too much uncocered space. She waited a moment, then ran for another, smaller rock which was a bit closer to Gambit and ducked behind it.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 0:32
Remy hid behind an obstacle of very strange shape. Probably it represented a cubist tree in the land of Dali, but he couldn't care less. His only worry was how to adapt the position of his body so that he wouldn't stick any part of him from behind it.
He noticed one of Shade's targets showing behind the rock where she was hiding. Must be a leg, he thought.
"Gambit can see ya," he informed her loudly, aiming and shooting. Another hit.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 0:40
Again she instinctively pulled back too late. She tried to locate his voice. He couldn´t be too far away but now he knew where she was hiding. She had a look around and tried to find an obstacle she could switch to, discovering some sort of broad pillar not too far away, behind her and another one to her left just about three metres away. The latter would bring her closer she thought and maybe, reaching around it from the far end, she could aim at Gambit. She hopped to her feet and dashed out for the pillar, reaching it before he reacted, rounded it, got a glimpse of what she thought might be Gambit´s costume, aimed and shot.
When the signal notified she had hit him, she let out a triumphant laugh.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 0:55
Remy's eyes widened with surprise when he heard the signal. But he grinned when he quickly turned, hiding behind his cover from another side. The game had finally started.
He glanced out carefully, but didn't notice Shade. Backing up slowly for another object, he held his gun aiming at the spot where she was hiding.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 1:02
She thought. Most likely he now knew where she was hiding so he could either try to get to another hiding place to get behind her cover or just wait for her to run. Calculating how he might react she waited for a moment, then pretended to continue running into the direction she had been heading at when she had approached the obstacle, firing roughly into his direction in an attempt to distract him.
Then she bolted into the other direction, heading back to the hiding place she had hid earlier as fast as her feet carried her firing her weapon as she did so in the hope to catch him off guard.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 1:08
Remy first heard Shade running and then saw her. He shot at her, probably hitting her with laser anyway, but missing any of the targets, so the shot went blank.
He ducked behind the cover and followed Shade parallel to her movement, glancing up from above his cover every now and then to check.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 1:14
She had run as fast as she could but as soon as she had reached the wall she breaked abruptly and came to a halt, wondering if Gambit was maybe following her. He would for sure be able to foresee many of her movements and have a lot more training in things like these, it was a true challenge. She stayed near the edge of the wall and quickly whirled around, saw Gambit look over the brim of where he was hiding and shot, but didn´t hit a target.
Posted by Gambit on Apr 30, 2007, 1:23
Remy quickly dove back under the rock. Now he knew where Shade was. He could hear that she wasn't moving, and he could also hear her breath fast after the sprint she'd just made.
Glancing out again, he couldn't see her, which meant she couldn't see him from that place at that second, either, so he decided to take a chance and catch her by surprise. Springing up from where he was sitting, he ran towards her hiding place and, halting there and aiming directly into the target on Shade's chest, shot three times before running away into the labyrinth.
Posted by Shade on Apr 30, 2007, 1:27
His attack startled her and she was too slow too react. The signal sounded three times, then he headed off. Reacting hastily, she aimed at his back and started running after him, hearing the signal go off once, before she quickle leaped to an obstacle on the left.
