Shade grabbed for the zorb box and just flashed him a worldless grin before she stepped outside.

*************************************** (( some couple of months after "A (Birth)day Out" ))
The most recent job was supposed to be timed by the person who ordered it - they insisted that it was impossible to determine when to begin; however, Gambit would receive a signal as soon as it was time for him to move into play.
He spent some time sitting with his laptop on the edge of the mattress, and when he was finally done and put it away to go to the kitchen for a glass of water, it occurred to him that it was probably rather late into the night already and he missed an hour or two of precious sleep, so necessary before doing the job. However, he'd catch up with his need for sleep in another couple of hours, so that was not too big a problem.
When Remy returned to the room, he couldn't even tell whether Shade was already asleep or not - her breath was deep and calm but she could be lying awake with her eyes open just the same. He sat down on his half of the mattress carefully and leaned over her to see how she was doing.

Shade had drifted over into a state that was hovering on the edge of waking a time ago, a state where she was barely aware of her sorroundings but not quite asleep. Gambit had been working for the last few hours, preparing another heist by the looks of it and she had left him at peace knowing he usually needed concentrating when it came to such preparations.
Curled up under the blanket she stirred a little when she felt Gambit move closer and opened one lazy eye. "Still working?" she murmured, raising a tired hand to stretch a little, her movements slow from almost sleeping.

"Not anymore," Gambit said. "It's two in de mornin'; I might be leavin' any minute now, so I figured I might as well try an' get some sleep first."

So she couldn´t have slept for too long, Shade figured. A little of the weariness momentarily leaving her she reached up to brush a hand along his hair. "You do that." she said, catching her curiosity peaking up like it would do now and then when he was about to be off to God knew where. She never asked where he was going, knowing it was the sort of thing he used to keep hidden. "You know when you´ll be back?" she asked.

"No," Gambit said, "an' neither should you." He leaned lower to kiss her and pretended to fall asleep on the spot, collapsing on the bed next to her and partly covering her with his arm.

"Okay." Shade murmured and gave a low chuckle at this, too tired yet to give a full fledged response. It was a reply that she might have expected, still that didn´t keep her from asking now and then. She curled up a little more again and shifted so she was huddling a little closer to Gambit.

Gambit fell asleep rather quickly, having learned to do that over the years of experience when hours for sleep were often too sparse to waste.

It took Shade a little longer to fall back asleep. Not that it annoyed her, but she simply wasn´t as trained in such matters as she was. Her eyes closed she could feel his breath become deeper and more regular and, lulled by it, drifted off into some random dream after a couple of minutes.

It wasn't long before Gambit's phone gave a short beep, notifying him of a message. He woke up and glanced at the screen; finding the information he needed, he got up carefully, trying not to wake Shade, and went to another room to get dressed and grab his things.
He was out in ten minutes, leaving Shade alone.

Shade barely stirred in her sleep when he got up to leave. When she had not yet been used to Gambit leaving at night, his getting up would wake her even though she was usually someone who slept quite soundly, but she had gotten used to it and thus it didn´t wake her up. Her arm moved a little to grab for his pillow instinctively as a replacement for his form, but apart from that, she didn´t notice him leave.
She didn´t know how long she slept, but Shade woke up when she heard the door being shut. Pretty sure it couldn´t be him leaving even though sleep could disorientate ones understanding of time, she snapped awake, not sitting bolt upright on the mattress but awake from the sound nonetheless.

Gambit got back to his apartment as quickly as he could. He was inwardly recalling the location of the most important stuff he had around the house so that he could just grab them and be off.
He shut the door, not bothering to be quiet, and ran to the bedroom. Kneeling down by the mattress, he brushed Shade's hair. "Shade, wake up," he said, then reached for the disks with information that lay near the bed and, grabbing them, shoved them into his bag, then stood up again.

Maybe one of the reasons she had woken from the sound of the door so easily was that it was unusual of him to close it that loudly, so there was something in the back of her mind, alerting her even though it was not strong enough a feeling to have warning lights go off and tell her that something was wrong.
When she felt his touch however, her eyes opened and the too faint feeling became something more pronounced, something uneasy. Sitting up in the bed, bewildered that he would wake her like this, she noticed he was hectic. Sleep was retreating slowly, her mind more awake than her body. "What´s up?" she asked with a slight scowl, crawling from under the blanket before she got a reply though.

"You are, finally," Gambit replied. He found some more items that needed to be evacuated from the room, and walked towards the hallway. "Get dressed now an' grab anythin' you'd be savin' in a fire."

Seeing him run around in the room and grab things immidiately roused half a dozen questions the most urgent of them being ´What in the world´s going on?´, but something told her that had to wait for later. Her instincts and Gambit´s behaviour told her this was not the moment for asking but the moment to just do what she was told to do. She scrambled from the matress, her eyes darting around and finding her clothes. She didn´t bother to make anything look tidy, just dressed as quickly as she could and, abandoning the shir she had been wearing the day before, grabbed for a jumper instead since by the looks of it it was still dark and therefore probably cool outside.
She usually had a duffle bag with her when she was at his place and moved over to the corner to grab it. It had some clothes and other things inside already so she needn´t worry about that and her laptop she had left at the mansion where she needed it for work so that was of no concern. She quickly found her purse and cell phone and stuffing it in found her thoughts racing. Anything you´d be saving in a fire? There was no question for her that this was not about a fire. Most of the possessions that had a personal meaning for her were in her dorm anyways and confusion blended out feeling sorry not to be able to take things she would usually take with her if she could take everything she liked, such as the zorb or the dress she had worn to the casino. It was of little importance right now and she didn´t bother, concentrating on hurrying instead, Gambit´s hurry urging her on as she grabbed for her sneakers.
